Background / History

Son Wukong lived alone in the mountains after the death of her grandfather, Son Gohan. She met the displaced Zhang Wutian when he became lost in the forest, brought him to her home, and readily agreed to teach him how to fight. Zhang initially mistook her for the male Son Goku before learning she was a girl. 1 2

During their months together, Wukong hunted for them, rescued Zhang from a giant bear, and repeatedly sparred with him. Her natural potential and Zhang's ability to grow against stronger opponents created a cycle in which each fighter continually drove the other forward. 3 4

Bulma eventually persuaded Wukong to leave the mountains and begin searching for the Dragon Balls. Wukong and Zhang parted on the promise that they would meet again at the World Martial Arts Tournament. 5

After training under Master Roshi, Wukong reunited with Zhang at the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Their semifinal became a friendly but intense contest, during which she used the Kamehameha and demonstrated rapid growth in live combat. Zhang ultimately knocked her unconscious to prevent a full-moon transformation. 12 15 16

Wukong later accompanied Zhang through anomalous spaces and parallel worlds. In the Red Ribbon Army world, she confronted Evil Son Goku after witnessing the destruction he caused, attacking him out of anger for his victims. She subsequently trained under Mr. Popo and in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber before helping Zhang restore those killed by Evil Son Goku through the Dragon Balls. 26 28 29 32 45
