Background / History

Yasuo joined Elder Souma's dojo alongside Li Ke and rapidly became its most exceptional disciple. Within only a few years, he mastered the Wind Technique—an art that manipulates wind through magic—and was recognized by Souma as his most gifted student. His ability surpassed even Yone, the dojo's respected senior disciple. 1

As Noxian invasion threatened Ionia, Yasuo eagerly anticipated fighting on the battlefield. Elder Souma instead worried that Yasuo's reckless temperament and status as the Wind Technique's sole promising successor made sending him to war too dangerous. 4

When Souma entrusted Li Ke and Yone with a mission to Shon-Xan, Yasuo took the decision as a personal slight. He attempted to seize the mission by intimidating Li Ke with a sword strike, then escalated the confrontation into a spar after Li Ke blocked him. 5

Yasuo initially dominated the duel through superior strength and speed, but his contempt for Li Ke led him to imitate Li Ke's Iaijutsu without properly preparing it. Li Ke's counter broke Yasuo's sword and cut his cheek. 6 Enraged, Yasuo attacked again with his broken blade and Wind Technique, destroying Li Ke's sword.
