Background / History
Li Ke originated on Earth before transmigrating to Ionia. As a child, he was taken in by an elderly woodcutter who had lost his family. When Li Ke was seven, the woodcutter brought him to Elder Souma's dojo, then left for the Garden of Forgetfulness; Li Ke immediately believed the remorseful man would never return. 1
Souma's dojo gave Li Ke a home and swordsmanship training, but also made his limitations clear. He possessed neither magic nor the physical advantages common among Ionian swordsmen, leaving him unable to learn the Wind Technique despite his diligence. 1 2 His original ambition was modest: earn enough money to relocate to Piltover and live comfortably. 1 8
His life changed when he began entering other worlds through The Void. His first Arad life ended with his death as an outnumbered caravan guard, but its qi cultivation and swordsmanship became real upon his awakening in Ionia. 2 3 Later simulations provided further techniques, vitality, weapons, strategic knowledge, and possible futures—while repeatedly exposing him to death, memory confusion, and outcomes beyond his control. 9 21 37
Personality
Li Ke is intensely hardworking and refuses shortcuts he considers corrupting. Before awakening qi, he rejected Kazan Syndrome despite seeing others gain power from ghosts and spirits, believing strength had to be earned personally. 2 He recognizes his lack of natural talent without allowing it to become jealousy, and treats every increase in strength as necessary preparation for a dangerous world. 1 8
He is cautious in planning, often using simulations to avoid dangers before acting, but can become reckless, excitable, or vindictive in immediate crises. 20 21 He responds especially harshly to ambushes, threats against Souma, and the waste of food; after an attacker ruins his meal, Li Ke nearly kills him and defeats another swordsman with a qi-coated chopstick. 23
Li Ke is also irreverent, boastful, and fond of provoking others. His modern-Earth knowledge gives him a vast repertoire of insults that Shen struggles to answer. 31 32 He openly judges women by appearance and admits to shallow standards, a trait displayed during his encounters with several apparent damsels in distress. 15
Abilities & Skills
The Void
The Void is Li Ke's personal simulation ability. By expending mental strength and vitality, he can experience alternate lives or simulate possible real-life developments, then receive feedback from those experiences. 3 9
- His thoughts and desires influence the life or world he enters; a wish for strength led to Arad swordsmanship, while a wish for peace led to a modern life as a surgeon. 3 4
- Quick Simulation costs 100 mental energy and 50 vitality, while Real Life simulation requires him to participate through its events. 9
- Simulations can transfer memories, combat skills, vitality, items, talents, or reward choices to reality. 2 9 45
- He may blur simulation memories to reduce identity confusion, but doing so can leave him without crucial context for a reward or future danger. 9 21
- The ability exhausts his mental strength and can leave him weak, disoriented, and concerned that repeated simulations may erode his original identity. 3 37
Qi / Sword Qi
Li Ke's qi is a fusion of spirit, will, and vital energy rather than conventional magic. Its existence allows him to fight despite having no magical aptitude. 3 20
- Strengthens his physique, speed, reactions, and endurance. 2 4 6
- Can be channeled into weapons for destructive cutting power against both physical matter and magic. 20 41
- Supports ranged or forceful sword attacks, including striking targets beyond normal blade range. 2 3
- Requires physical conditioning and meditation to improve. 15
- His current qi reserves and body cannot sustain maximum-output combat for long. 41
Arad Swordsmanship
Li Ke retained swordsmanship from his simulated lives on the Arad Continent, a combat style built for killing monsters through speed, power, stamina, and relentless attack chains. 3 15
- Iaijutsu — gathers qi and force before releasing them in a rapid draw slash; Li Ke uses it to sever a demon's mask and split a carriage. 6 16
- Sweeping Blade — combines footwork and sword movement to counter an opponent's positioning. 6
- Backstep Slash — a powerful sword technique used to wound a giant demon and force it back into human form. 17
- Force redirection — uses posture and movement to neutralize stronger opponents, though it fails against overwhelming power. 17
- He has not mastered Arad's Weapon Mastery, leaving his weapons vulnerable to the strain of his techniques. 44
Overdrive
Overdrive channels qi into a blade, making it vibrate like a high-frequency weapon and greatly increasing sharpness. 15
- Lets Li Ke cut through weapons, armor, helmets, and spearheads. 16 41 42
- Amplifies his killing power enough to threaten opponents far stronger than ordinary swordsmen. 16 20
- Rapidly damages the weapon used; Li Ke repeatedly breaks swords and eventually carries spare Noxian blades. 15 42 44
Strategic Planning
Simulated wartime experience gives Li Ke an unusually practical approach to military organization and Ionian reform. 30 33
- Ended a simulated Ionian war against Noxus in two years by consolidating Ionian strength and applying modern warfare, logistics, and organizational methods. 29 30 33
- Obtains the Ionia Five-Year Plan, a detailed program Shen considers increasingly feasible after reading it. 38
- Sees unity, trained militia, magical specialization, and logistics as more decisive than individual masters alone. 33
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Yone's longsword — entrusted to Li Ke by Yone; a high-quality single-edged weapon that Li Ke uses for qi techniques until it breaks in battle. 8 9 42
- Irelia family heirloom sword — a top-tier sword chosen as a simulation reward; can manifest an energy blade and is highly compatible with Li Ke's fighting style. 27
- Kinkou secret medicine — medicine obtained through his agreement with Meimu; restores vitality and spiritual power, though Shen identifies side effects in Li Ke's self-made pills. 19 26 31
- Five Noxian longswords — scavenged replacements carried after Overdrive destroys his previous blade. 44
- Noxian spears, shield, and leather armor — salvaged equipment Li Ke takes for practical use. 44
- M16 rifle, USP pistol, Glock 18, and tactical belt — modern weapons available to Li Ke during the forest ambush. 47
Relationships
- Elder Souma — guardian, master, and deeply respected elder who gave Li Ke a home in Ionia. Li Ke attempts to prevent the future tragedy surrounding Souma's death. 1 5 8
- Yasuo — fellow disciple and rival. Yasuo initially urges Li Ke to abandon swordsmanship because of his lack of aptitude, but later recognizes his improvement and worries about him. 2 6
- Yone — fellow disciple whom Li Ke trusts to protect Souma. Yone leaves him money and his own sword, prompting Li Ke to compare him to a father. 8
- Meimu — Fist of Shadow and Kinkou leader. She heals Li Ke after his battle with a Yazakana, offers him Kinkou membership, and later contracts with him for information about qi. 18 19 20
- Shen — Kinkou disciple assigned by Kusho to protect Li Ke. Their relationship develops through banter, mutual reliance, and Shen's growing interest in Li Ke's plans for Ionia. 31 37 38
- Irelia — a girl Li Ke first encounters in simulations, where they marry and fight alongside one another against Noxus; he later meets her in reality. 26 29 38
- Lito — Irelia's father. He aids Li Ke against Noxian soldiers but distrusts and mocks him, particularly after seeing Irelia seek comfort from Li Ke. 42 43
- G.S.D — Li Ke's Arad simulation mentor, who teaches him swordsmanship and seeks to train him as a Sword Soul. 9
- Kelly — a friend from Li Ke's Arad simulation whose Reinforcement Furnace explodes, killing both of them. 9
Story Role / Major Arcs
Souma Dojo and Qi Awakening
Li Ke begins as Souma's least naturally gifted disciple, unable to use magic or the Wind Technique. After his first simulation grants him qi, he defeats Yasuo in a swordsmanship exchange but remains unable to contend with Yasuo's Wind Technique. 1 2 6 7
Knowing the future circumstances of Souma's death, Li Ke entrusts Yone with guarding their master while he focuses on becoming strong enough to intervene personally. 5 8
Kinkou Journey and the Yazakana
While traveling with a Kinkou disciple, Li Ke uses a simulation to uncover that their coachman is possessed and working with a demon. 11 12 He witnesses Meimu defeat the possessed coachman, then later faces another demon himself. 13 16
Using Iaijutsu and Overdrive, Li Ke removes the demon's mask and survives its final assault with only 12 health remaining. Meimu heals him, confirms that he has permanently killed a Yazakana, and offers him a place in the Kinkou Order. 17 18 19
Simulations, Placidium, and Future War
Li Ke declines Kinkou membership in favor of wealth and independence, but accepts Meimu's contract to explain qi. The attempt fails when Meimu cannot replicate his power. 19 20
In Placidium, Li Ke's simulations show potential relationships with Irelia, Ahri, and Xayah, as well as a version of himself who organizes Ionia against Noxus. 26 29 30 He ultimately chooses strategic knowledge—the Ionia Five-Year Plan—over another vitality reward. 38
Conflict with Noxus
Li Ke and Shen become targets of a Noxian assassination squad. During the ensuing fighting, Li Ke uses qi-enhanced weapons, stolen gear, and Overdrive to fight formations of Noxian soldiers, though he remains reliant on Shen and Lito against stronger opposition. 41 42 44
After The Void strengthens during their escape, Li Ke prepares for another forest ambush with modern firearms alongside his heirloom sword. 45 47
