Background

Lapis and his twin sister Lazuli were originally humans whose family was destroyed before Dr. Gero modified them into androids. Their retained memories, overwhelming power, and weak control functions left them determined to kill the scientist who had altered their lives. 11

When Dr. Gero awakened him as Android 17, Lapis feigned obedience alongside Lazuli, then seized the controller that gave their creator leverage over them. The twins subsequently defied Gero completely; Lapis killed him rather than submit to his control. 3 4

After meeting Mo Yuan, Lapis and Lazuli chose to relinquish their serial-number identities and reveal their original names. Though they let go of much of their hatred, they still intended to confront Son Goku over the circumstances that led to Dr. Gero's continued existence. 11 12

Lapis initially dismissed the need for training because he considered the twins unmatched on Earth. Mo Yuan's explanation of Saiyan transformations and their potential multipliers made him reconsider the danger of remaining stagnant. 13

After Lazuli and Mo Yuan emerged from a year in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Lapis challenged Mo Yuan to prove himself worthy of Lazuli. Mo Yuan defeated and healed him, earning Lapis's acceptance as his brother-in-law. 29 30

Lapis then entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Mo Yuan, learned to sense ki, absorbed primordial energy, and activated his latent Earthling bloodline. He later accepted Mr. Popo as a combat teacher after being decisively outclassed in an equal-strength spar. 30 31 42

Appearance

Lapis first appears as a handsome black-haired youth in a black T-shirt and orange scarf. Following cultivation and bloodline activation, his body matures significantly. 3 31
