"This is truly incredible!" Allen exclaimed.
"Phoenixes are indeed magical creatures. Their abilities go far beyond this. For example, their tears possess powerful healing properties..." Professor Dumbledore had been quite willing to discuss Fawkes's wonders with Allen, but Madam Pomfrey, who had hurried out of the common room upon hearing the noise, interrupted them.
"Oh, Harry! What trouble has this little fellow gotten himself into, Headmaster?" Worthy of being the Nightingale of the Magical World, Madam Pomfrey saw not Headmaster Dumbledore first, but Harry, unconscious in Allen's arms.
Judging by her clothes, Madam Pomfrey had clearly already gone to sleep. Perhaps the Hospital Wing had some sort of magic that alerted her when a patient arrived. Allen's thoughts wandered. What sort of magic could serve as an alert? Before he could come up with an answer, Professor Dumbledore signaled with his eyes for him to answer Madam Pomfrey's question.
"Well, he was probably struck by Dark Magic." Under Professor Dumbledore's watchful gaze, Allen briefly explained how Harry had been injured.
Madam Pomfrey directed Allen to carry Harry into the inner room and lay him on a hospital bed. She then examined Harry carefully. After a long while, she let out a deep breath and said with tired relief, "I can treat him. He may have to suffer a little, but he will be perfectly safe. Headmaster, Mr. Allen Harris, if there is nothing else, please leave for now. This child needs peace and quiet to recover, and he probably will not wake up for several days." Madam Pomfrey evidently had everything under control. Clearly finding Professor Dumbledore and Allen, who were standing nearby, rather in the way, she politely drove them both out.
