Ch. 146Five years later

Five years after the battle, Kangetsu learned that the Crimson Village was secure and self-sufficient, while Isshin reported that plans had placed the Hyuga Branch Family under Kangetsu’s influence and prepared the Uzumaki Clan for a possible attack. The village’s allies and Kangetsu’s betrothals left him positioned to benefit from upheaval in both clans.

  • Uchiha Inoue told Kangetsu that the Land of Fire supplied the Crimson Village in exchange for protection, and that his reputation deterred other clans from approaching.
  • Kangetsu asked Isshin about the preparations, and Isshin said Yijiu had helped Hyuga Tianguang gain control of the Hyuga Branch Family.
  • Isshin reported that most Hyuga Branch members had faked their deaths and gathered elsewhere, weakening the Main Family, and that Hyuga Tianguang had agreed to Kangetsu’s marriage to Hyuga Kyoko.
  • Isshin said they had helped Uzumaki Ziyan capture the Four-Tails and spread information that made other clans covet the Uzumaki Clan’s resources.
  • Isshin explained that Uzumaki Ziyan had pushed Uzumaki Suien’s small but loyal branch out of the clan’s political center, and that it could join the Crimson Village if Ziyan’s branch fell.

Ch. 147A domineering declaration

Kangetsu learned that the Uchiha and Senju Clans had become evenly matched, then ordered a campaign to establish the Crimson Country and claim half the Land of Fire. He left Isshin to plan the campaign and Inoue to lead the fighting, while threatening the Land of Fire's daimyo into submission.

  • Isshin reported that Uchiha Tajima had died two years earlier and that Uchiha Izuna's request to Eiko had been rejected while Kangetsu was in seclusion.
  • Isshin explained that Senju Hashirama led the Senju Clan, with Senju Butsuma and Tobirama Senju supporting its affairs and military strength.

  • Kangetsu considered how his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and other powers could control Nine-Tails.
  • Kangetsu ordered Yamanaka Ino to hand all information on Nine-Tails to Inoue, and Ino agreed before leaving.
  • Kangetsu told Inoue that he would take him to capture Nine-Tails and asked whether he dared face the risk of heavy casualties.
  • Inoue vowed to follow and protect Kangetsu with his life.
  • Kangetsu told Inoue he hoped to see the real Inoue next time rather than someone consumed by grief, then dismissed him.

Ch. 149The Uzumaki Clan

Uzumaki Suien and Uzumaki Mito traveled with Yamanaka Ino toward the Crimson Village, where Ino explained Kangetsu’s plans and revealed that he intended to subdue the Nine-Tails. Suien and Mito reacted with concern as the group faced the prospect of Kangetsu confronting the beast.

  • Uzumaki Ziyan let Uzumaki Suien take five thousand people and copy the Uzumaki Clan’s ninjutsu.

  • Kangetsu stood nearby and locked eyes with the Nine-Tails.

Ch. 152Clashing Head-On with the Nine-Tails

  • Kangetsu raised his fighting spirit and took a Three-Body Stance.

Ch. 154The Power of the Nine-Tails

Kangetsu recognized that the Nine-Tails’ immense chakra and ability to repeatedly unleash powerful attacks gave him the advantage in a prolonged battle. The Nine-Tails challenged Kangetsu to continue fighting, leaving the confrontation unresolved.

  • The Nine-Tails swept away the lingering force of the explosion with his claw.
  • The Nine-Tails told Kangetsu that he could repeat his attacks while Kangetsu could use his only once, and asked whether he still wanted to fight.
  • Kangetsu acknowledged that the Nine-Tails was right about their difference in endurance.
  • Kangetsu considered how Tailed Beasts could only be captured through overwhelming human force, sealing techniques, or abilities such as the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Kangetsu recalled that Deidara captured the Three-Tails with help from Tobi, who was Uchiha Obito.

Ch. 155The Nine-Tails Under Control

Ch. 156Successfully Capturing the Nine-Tails

Kangetsu completed a contract sealing the Nine-Tails, Kurama, into a summoning scroll and bound the fox to his bloodline. The scroll turned fiery red as Kurama entered the space within it.

  • Kangetsu used his ocular power and Uzumaki sealing chains to immobilize the Nine-Tails.
  • Kangetsu performed a summoning technique that began forming a seal around the Nine-Tails.
  • Kangetsu cut Kurama’s paw with the Black Blade, Masamune, and added both Kurama’s blood and his own to the scroll.
  • Kangetsu explained that the contract gave his bloodline power over Kurama, then declared the contract complete.
  • The red seal pulled Kurama into the scroll, which turned fiery red and gained an enormous fox design.

Ch. 157Return

Kangetsu ended his fight with the Nine-Tails and headed back with Inoue, Uzumaki Suien, and Uzumaki Mito. Though his chakra pathways had been damaged, the God Tree was healing them, but he expected to be unable to use chakra for a while.

  • Inoue promised Kangetsu that he would complete his mission.
  • Kangetsu asked Nara Isshin how the battles between Uchiha Madara and Senju Hashirama had gone.
  • Nara Isshin reported that Uchiha Madara’s strength had gradually declined while Senju Hashirama had grown stronger, and that their recent battles caused far less destruction.
  • Kangetsu reasoned that the Sage of Six Paths’ chakra had faded from Uchiha Madara and that the Sage had secretly strengthened Senju Hashirama, but he could not explain why both had lost more than half their power.
  • A shadowy figure in the Crimson Village laughed and claimed to have seized half of Asura’s chakra despite Otsutsuki Hagoromo noticing it.

Ch. 160Black Zetsu Reappears

  • Black Zetsu finished the other scrolls for Uzumaki Mito and disappeared into the ground.
