Kaiqi lifted his foot and stepped over the last scraps of the adamantium gate that had once protected the inner core of Krieg's capital defense headquarters.
Humming a tune, he bent down and found the security chief amid the pile of corpses—only a small portion of the man's body remained. He picked it up and tapped it against his data-slate, not releasing it in disgust until he heard a beep.
He did not want to do this either, but the man had so little left.
And, as luck would have it, there were no fingers or eyes among the remains, so he had to rely on his data-slate's biological data replication function to pass the central cogitator's verification. Fortunately, it did not let him down. It completed the task in mere seconds, so quickly it was as though the security chief were still alive.
Kaiqi let out a cheerful whistle, removed the security protocol override device from around his neck, plugged it into the central cogitator's data-reading slot, then turned and strode out of the unpleasant little trench filled with the stench of blood, flesh, and scorching.
