Half an hour later, Fang Cheng met Kamikawa Takumi and his assistant, Minamoto Kaori, at a pastry shop.
After so many days apart, he'd thought his reunion with his future brother-in-law would be warm and friendly. Instead, the moment they met, things turned awkward.
Kamikawa Takumi looked Fang Cheng up and down with a scrutinizing gaze, as if he were a wild boar that had gone after his precious cabbage. He looked ready to break Fang Cheng's legs with a stick.
He hadn't expected Kanzaki Rin to actually bring this kid to meet him.
What was this? Meeting the family?
Fang Cheng faced him calmly, without the slightest guilt or fear. With his current strength, even if he couldn't beat Kamikawa Takumi, he no longer had to fear him.
The rapport they'd shared at Settsu Shrine seemed never to have existed.
"Kaori, try this. It's really good."
Kanzaki Rin handed a plate of cake to Minamoto Kaori. She wasn't particularly close with her brother, but Minamoto Kaori would become her sister-in-law one day, so she treated her with respect.
Seeing this, Kamikawa Takumi immediately said, "Rin-chan, where's my piece?"
"Don't you have hands?"
"Cake cut by my little sister tastes sweeter... Ow!"
He got kicked under the table.
Fang Cheng had been about to ask Kanzaki Rin to cut him a piece too, but at the sight of that, he swallowed his words.
If he asked, Kanzaki Rin might refuse to help him. But if she actually cut him a piece, wouldn't that just earn him his future brother-in-law's hatred?
Still, the siblings seemed to get along pretty well, unlike what Kanzaki Rin had said.
After taking a loss at his sister's hands, Kamikawa Takumi immediately turned his irritation on Fang Cheng.
He laced his fingers together on the table
