When masters clashed, victory and defeat were often decided in an instant.
Even if the two sides were merely a jellyfish and a slime, that did not change.
Though Sui Xiong himself had not noticed it, the instant he let his guard down, Chaos immediately sensed it.
And in the very next instant, everything before his eyes went black.
(What happened? I've been wrapped up? When did that happen? Why didn't I notice?)
Sui Xiong reacted at once. Without time to think, he gathered all his strength and slammed fiercely toward the outer reaches of the abyss, away from Chaos.
Though he did not understand why Chaos had suddenly wrapped around him, this was no time for wild thoughts. He had to break out immediately!
He had to break free and flee before Chaos could unleash its next move.
That charge had concentrated nearly all his strength. At once, he smashed through the black "mud" before him and successfully burst out.
Yet the instant he broke through the encirclement, Sui Xiong saw a sight that shocked him into near-stupor, one he could scarcely believe with his own eyes.
He had supposedly been charging toward the outer side of the abyss, yet he was actually rushing in the exact opposite direction.
Not far ahead, Chaos—an enormous lump of shapeless mud—had opened a gigantic mouth, clearly intending to swallow him whole.
(Impossible!)
Sui Xiong was horrified, but his movements did not slow in the slightest. At this critical moment, he unleashed an astonishing burst of power that even he would have admired, taking only the kind of infinitesimal time described by certain mathematical decimals to turn his charging force into a retreat. His entire body twisted around, streaking away from Chaos.
But in the end, he was still a little too slow.
