Maria Hill, a Level 8 agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., possesses extensive intelligence experience, superb hand-to-hand combat skills, and proficiency with a wide array of weaponry.
Hill's decisive and sharp-edged style is deeply favored by Nick Fury. Like Coulson, despite being an ordinary human, she plays a vital role within S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Danger Level S?" Coulson was somewhat surprised. S.H.I.E.L.D. conducts corresponding tests and trials whenever they recruit new members.
First is the danger level test. Ordinary people, such as Coulson and Hill, only rank at A, while top-tier agents like Hawkeye and Black Widow are rated at S.
"Whether he is a friend or an enemy, we must understand his capabilities," Hill said, glancing at Coulson. "Otherwise, to us, he is nothing more than a ticking time bomb!"
Inside the White Room, littered with the wreckage and debris of weapons, William, having reverted to an ordinary human, shouted at the surveillance camera: "Is the test over? Can you let me out now?"
Just then, the door behind William, which had been locked, swung open. Coulson walked in with a peculiar expression, staring at William for a moment before saying, "You've passed the test. I'm taking you to see the boss."
A chill ran down William's spine. That's not right, he thought. Coulson's sexual orientation should be fine, so why...
"Before we go in, let me give you a piece of advice," Coulson said, finally leading William to the door of the Director's office. "It would be best if you didn't say anything about being a person from the future or anything like that."
William smiled slightly without a word. He pushed open the door to see a one-eyed Black man sitting at the desk.
Nick Fury, the current Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., holds the highest Level 10 clearance. He can mobilize the entire organization at any time, dispatching his most elite agents to every corner of the globe to execute classified missions.
He is the King of Agents, the King of Spies, possessing a wealth of hand-to-hand combat experience and techniques, and is proficient in fighting with all manner of cold weapons and firearms.
Fury's left eye was injured during World War II, so he is accustomed to wearing a black eyepatch, which has become a symbol of his identity.
His personality is insidious and cunning, making those around him deeply wary. No one knows his secrets because he is a secret himself. He is always scrutinizing everything, much like that classic line—
"I have my eye on you."
During the formation of the Avengers, he acted as the linchpin. Even in the not-so-distant future, when he lays down the burdens of the directorship, he remains the soul of S.H.I.E.L.D., a true leader.
"Sir, this is the special individual I introduced to you," Coulson said, stepping forward. "William Lister."
Hearing this, Nick Fury's single eye turned toward William. A "special individual" refers to someone with extraordinary abilities, yet the guy in front of him looked quite ordinary, seemingly lacking anything special.
While Nick Fury scrutinized William, William was also observing him closely. Director Fury was even darker than he had imagined, and from a distance, his bald head looked exactly like a braised egg.
"Mr. Lister, I hear you deliver pizza," Nick Fury spoke first.
"That's right, our pizza is delicious," William said with a smile, pulling out a business card. "If you mention my name, you can get a twenty percent discount!"
Nick Fury glanced at the card, which bore the name Jonathan's Pizza Fast Food Restaurant. Never mind whether the pizza was good or not; by the time it was delivered from New York to Washington, it would have long since gone cold.
"Besides delivering food, do you do anything else?" Nick Fury continued to ask.
"I'm a bit of a homebody. Aside from work, I just stay home watching TV and playing games," William shrugged.
"Oh, really? But as far as I know, you have other hobbies besides delivering pizza," Nick Fury pulled out a tablet. In the video, William in his Soldier: 76 form was pursuing bank robbers. "For example, fighting crime?"
William smiled. It seemed the previous chat was just a probe, and the real show was only just beginning.
"What do you want to ask?" William put on a helpless expression. "I admit that person is me."
"Is this your ability? Or rather, I want to ask, what exactly is your ability?" Nick Fury's expression turned serious.
William looked at Coulson and noticed him constantly winking, as if warning him not to say things he shouldn't. He smiled and nodded, signaling to Coulson that he understood.
"It's very simple. I am a transmigrator."
But William had no intention of listening to him. Upon hearing this, Coulson froze completely.
What the hell is this guy doing? Didn't I warn him not to talk nonsense?
"What did you say?" Nick Fury frowned, as if he hadn't heard clearly.
"I. Am. A. Transmigrator," William said, enunciating each word. A faint smile played on his lips. Agent Coulson, see? I didn't say I was a person from the future, did I?
Coulson held his forehead with one hand, knowing the situation was now beyond repair.
Nick Fury looked at Coulson with a strange expression. Coulson hurriedly put on an innocent face, trying to make Director Fury believe he was kept in the dark.
"Eh, so Director Fury didn't know?" William said with a mischievous grin. "I already told Agent Coulson the details a long time ago."
Nick Fury glared fiercely at Coulson, whose eyes widened in shock. He hadn't expected William to be such a backstabber, selling him out like this. It's over. I'm definitely getting demoted for this.
"What kind of joke is this..." Nick Fury's expression remained cold on the surface, but his heart was churning with waves.
Time travel is nothing but nonsense. For someone to claim they came from the future—they were either brain-damaged or had escaped from an asylum.
But why would Coulson hide this? It made no sense. Coulson was one of his most loyal subordinates; he couldn't possibly betray him.
Could it be... that this William really was a problem?
The scene became awkward. Coulson looked miserable, worrying about whether he would be demoted tomorrow.
William, however, looked indifferent, as if whether he were a time traveler or an alien were a trivial, everyday matter.
Nick Fury rubbed his brow. After a long silence, he said in a deep voice, "Mr. Lister, if you aren't willing to tell the truth, there is no need for us to cooperate."
William knew Nick Fury was threatening him. S.H.I.E.L.D. had its eyes on him; if he didn't cooperate, they would surely find all sorts of ways to force the truth out of him.
By then, it wouldn't just be about being a transmigrator—the secrets of the Overwatch System would be exposed.
"Director Fury," William smiled and said, "If you don't believe me, I can tell you a story. Of course, I already told this story to Coulson."
Hearing this, Nick Fury glared at Coulson again.
Coulson wore an expression of utter despair. This guy is truly detestable, selling me out one time after another!
William knew his goal had been achieved. He had to guard the secret of the system. He had prepared for this visit to S.H.I.E.L.D. long ago; everything hinged on this moment!
"I am an exile from the future," William said, feigning deep sorrow. "Because my world... was destroyed!"
