A white skull mask, its shape sharp and angular. A pitch-black cloak and trench coat, a hood over his head, two black shotguns in his hands, with shells hanging from his chest and waist. His entire form flickered in and out of view, sometimes turning into black mist, sometimes solidifying again.
Reaper. Before becoming the enemy's terrifying nightmare, he had once been a member of Overwatch: Gabriel Reyes.
Like Morrison, Reyes had once been part of the soldier enhancement program. Morrison's codename was Soldier: 76, while Reyes's was Soldier: 24.
Wait a second—24 plus 76 was exactly 100, wasn't it?
That definitely wasn't a coincidence. It just showed how close this pair of lovebirds—pah, best bros—had been back then.
Unlike Morrison, who came from the countryside, Reyes had joined the military early on and was an experienced officer.
After the Omnic Crisis broke out and the United Nations decided to establish Overwatch, he was initially put in charge of commanding the team. However, his willingness to use any means necessary for victory, even sacrificing teammates, caused Overwatch no small amount of trouble and intensified its internal conflicts.
Later, Morrison arrived. Unlike Reyes, who excelled in combat, Morrison was good at bringing the entire team together, and the two quickly became friends. Under their joint leadership, Overwatch won the Omnic Crisis.
Morrison became humanity's hero, and in recognition of his contributions, the United Nations appointed him Overwatch's official commander. Reyes, however, was overlooked. This left him dissatisfied with Overwatch and created a rift between him and Morrison.
Afterward, Reyes formed Blackwatch, Overwatch's dark side. They specialized in assassinations, infiltration, surprise attacks, and intelligence gathering—work far better suited to Reyes's style.
But trouble soon followed. Blackwatch's base was blown up, and Blackwatch suffered heavy casualties. Reyes led a team to strike back.
