Carol had never expected the Skrulls, whom she remembered as utterly vicious, to ask them for help. She felt certain something was wrong.

Talos handed them the black box from the crashed plane. Nick Fury inserted the disc into the drive, but computers of this era loaded painfully slowly. They waited a long time before the recording finally began to play.

Hearing the voice, Captain Marvel immediately remembered everything from the past. Her sealed memories slowly opened, and she learned the truth.

Lawson had been conducting secret research, and Carol had been responsible for test-flying the aircraft she built. One day, she and Lawson flew beyond Earth, preparing to head to her laboratory.

But unexpectedly, a spacecraft attacked them. Their plane crashed back on Earth, and Carol also learned Lawson's true identity. She was Mar-Vell, a Kree from Hala. She had been researching the Light-Speed Engine in order to end that war.

But the Kree wanted Mar-Vell's research results. In the end, Mar-Vell was shot and killed by the Kree. With no other choice, Carol shot and destroyed the Light-Speed Engine. It immediately exploded, and the immense power within flooded into Carol's body. That was the secret behind her powerful abilities.

Carol remembered everything that happened afterward. The Kree took her to Hala, brainwashed her into becoming a Kree female warrior, and gave her a new name: Vers.

Carol had never imagined that everything in her past had been a lie. The Kree had deceived her.

"What exactly do you need our help with?" Carol asked.

"Because we opposed Kree rule, Ronan wanted to wipe us out and leave us without a home. We are not dangerous enemies at all. We are pitiful refugees."
