Just as Lin Mo and his companions were discussing how to make their move, the Vajra Ape, currently locked in battle with the Azure Vine, was utterly bewildered.
It had not been here originally.
It had been inexplicably snatched from its own territory and dumped in this place.
The moment it opened its eyes, it saw the frenzied Azure Vine and was forced to defend itself.
It did not even know how it had been captured and thrown here.
Watching the vines coiling around it, a flash of ferocity crossed the Vajra Ape's eyes.
If it weren't for its poor condition, it would have devoured this little vine alive.
The Azure Vine was, after all, a decent supplement.
Yet, if it continued to linger here, the roles of predator and prey might well be reversed!
Its intuition told it that this place was wrong, and it had to leave immediately.
As for this detestable vine, it could return to settle the score once it had recovered its strength.
Before it could break free from the Azure Vine's constraints, a pale fist slammed into its face.
Immediately, the owner of that hand grabbed it by the scruff of its neck, forcibly dragged it from the tangle of the Azure Vine, and hurled it aside with great force.
The Vajra Ape felt the world spin; its entire body soared through the air before crashing heavily into the ground.
A shallow crater formed where it landed, sending mud and shredded grass flying everywhere. It shook its dizzy head and struggled to climb to its feet.
When the battered Vajra Ape regained its senses and saw the person standing before it, it let out an instinctive, ferocious roar.
A human!
And a weak human child at that.
The soul power fluctuations radiating from his body were, at best, comparable to a century-old soul beast.
In the past, he would have been considered a fine, nourishing snack.
But in its current, wretched state, the Vajra Ape had no such thoughts.
It only wanted to escape safely; it desired nothing else.
The way this human looked at it was the same way it looked at the dead apes in its own troop.
This sent a shiver of dread through the Vajra Ape.
Though its intelligence was not fully developed, the instincts of a soul beast allowed it to sense an inexplicable aura of danger from this human.
The Vajra Ape turned to run, but Lin Mo was faster.
Bang! Bang!
The sounds of fists and feet colliding erupted suddenly.
It was horrified to discover that it had actually lost in terms of raw strength—its greatest pride—to this child who didn't even look like he had grown hair yet.
Lin Mo's expression remained as calm as ever, showing not a hint of panic.
First stage of Inversion of Three!
Bolstered by the Dragon-Tiger Strength inherent to the first stage of the Inversion of Three, Lin Mo easily suppressed the four-hundred-year-old Vajra Ape.
Bang! Bang!
Lin Mo threw a straight punch, striking the Vajra Ape's raised arms without ceremony, producing a dull thud.
The Vajra Ape attempted to counterattack.
It swung its massive fist directly at Lin Mo's head, but Lin Mo merely tilted his body to avoid the blow, seizing the opportunity to drive an elbow strike deep into its chest.
The Vajra Ape let out a pained howl, its body staggering backward involuntarily.
It looked down to find a small indentation in its chest, a sharp, throbbing pain radiating from its fractured ribs.
Lin Mo gave it no room to breathe; he pushed off the ground, his body shooting forward like an arrow from a bow, charging straight at the Vajra Ape.
With his right fist clenched, he delivered another straight punch, landing squarely in the Vajra Ape's abdomen.
Under this heavy blow, the creature's body folded like a shrimp, and it could not help but spew a mouthful of blood mixed with visceral fragments.
Never mind that this ape was already in poor condition from its prior battle with the Azure Vine.
Even if it were at its peak, Lin Mo would still have the confidence to kill it with his bare hands.
He found killing this type of brute-force soul beast even easier than dealing with a Datura Snake.
His Inversion of Three was currently only at the first stage, and he lacked a good way to deal with toxins for the time being.
Therefore, the potent venom carried by the Datura Snake was a significant nuisance to him.
He had to be careful at all times.
But a soul beast like the Vajra Ape, which relied on brute force, was completely suppressed in front of Lin Mo.
Its strength was inferior to his, and its movements were far too clumsy.
The Vajra Ape, which usually reigned supreme in the Soul Hunting Forest, was now being pummeled by Lin Mo as if it were nothing more than a punching bag.
The Vajra Ape had no intention of waiting for death, but when it attempted to finish Lin Mo off with its signature bear hug, it found his reaction speed far exceeded its expectations.
Just a split second before its arms could close, Lin Mo ducked low, slipped under its armpit to its back, and slammed his elbow into the nape of its neck once again.
MAN!
Struck in the back of the head by that elbow, the Vajra Ape felt the world go black before losing consciousness entirely.
It collapsed straight to the ground.
With a double-palm strike to the ears, Lin Mo firmly gripped the Vajra Ape's head and twisted with all his might.
With a crisp crack, the Vajra Ape's neck was wrenched at an unnatural angle.
A moment later, its body convulsed violently a few times before falling still.
Those large, bell-like eyes quickly lost all their luster.
Almost at the same time Lin Mo finished off the Vajra Ape, Tang San completed his own task.
With the help of Yu Xiaogang and Luo Sanpao, he successfully used the sword in his hand to sever the majority of the Azure Vine's roots.
The Azure Vine shuddered violently, all the vines under its control twitching in unison before going limp one by one.
Seeing this, Tang San rushed forward to deliver two more strikes, completely severing the remaining roots of the Azure Vine.
After struggling for a few more moments, a yellow spirit ring slowly emerged from the remains of the Azure Vine.
On Lin Mo's side, a yellow spirit ring likewise emerged from the corpse of the Vajra Ape.
Seeing this, Yu Xiaogang did not hesitate for a second, shouting to Lin Mo and Tang San, "Lin Mo, Little San, hurry and absorb your respective spirit rings."
"Sanpao and I will stand guard for you!"
He had to seize the time and ensure Lin Mo and Tang San completed their spirit ring absorption as quickly as possible.
Looking at the yellow spirit ring produced by the Vajra Ape before him, Lin Mo did not hesitate, sitting cross-legged immediately.
He channeled his spirit power, drew the spirit ring toward himself, and began the process of absorption.
Vajra Ape, I hope you can provide me with a spirit skill that leaves me satisfied!
As for his own safety, Lin Mo was not worried.
He had already guessed the identity of the person who had been following their group from the shadows.
