Background / History

Cao Longyan was a six-year-old with the soul of an adult from Blue Star when he awakened at Shrek Academy's Sea God Pavilion. His initial staff-like Tool Martial Soul transformed, revealing the Ten Halls of Yama, Ultimate Fire, True Dragon traits, and Guardian Spirits. From the outset, he resolved to reject what he saw as Tang San's predetermined “chessboard” and seek the position of God King himself 1.

He is Mu En's great-grandson and grew up on Sea God Island. He intervened in Zhang Lexuan's future by arguing that she should be free to choose whether to devote her life to Shrek, rather than be bound there by obligation 2. His actions also separated Zhang Lexuan's path from Bei Bei's, allowing Bei Bei and Tang Ya to become a couple 10.

After helping Tang Ya's family escape the Iron Blood Sect, Cao recruited them for a new organization. He renamed the Tang Sect's foundation Rakshasa Street, intending it to become the first step in dismantling Tang San's legacy. Tang Ya's parents handled its operations, while Cao supplied strategy and the Purgatory Cannon's production technology 9 20.

A major setback left him without soul power or a martial soul for six months. He withdrew into despair until Bei Bei's confrontation and Zhang Lexuan's quiet care brought him back to himself. He then travelled to the Extreme North, regained his strength through a 400,000-year spirit bone, and awakened the Ice Dragon King 27 30.

Cao later infiltrated the Body Sect under the identity Bai Yan to obtain its cultivation inheritance. He became Du Busi's personal disciple and formed genuine bonds with Du Busi, Long Aotian, and Vina, even though his eventual disappearance exposed the deception. His letter explained his identity and left them a cultivation plan; they chose to await his return 57 60 71.

He is also protective and compassionate. He rescued Meng Hongchen from Snowfield Wolves, saved Jiang Nannan from an attacker, confronted Zhou Yi over her treatment of students, and regularly guides Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and Xiao Xiao in cultivation 31 37 41 51. Even when using deception or force, he shows restraint, as seen when he spared Xu Sanshi after defeating him 43.
