Background / History

At age thirty, Nakai founded Grace Corporation through a mild-mannered public image and calculated tactics. The company targeted spiritually unfulfilled housewives, the ill, and relatives of seriously sick people, selling false hope under a corporate facade. By age fifty, he had become the president of the Holy Infant Society, which he initially treated as another scam built around a fabricated “Holy Infant.” 2

After returning from South Korea on May 15, Nakai was attacked in his apartment by a security guard acting as the Ninth Protector. The guard forced him to ingest a Holy Son Pill, demonstrated superhuman strength by twisting a metal rod, and ordered him to retrieve a child’s corpse from Masaki Hospital. The pill restored Nakai’s health, greatly enhanced his physical strength, and made him appear roughly ten years younger. Convinced that the Holy Infant was real, he became a fervent and increasingly unstable believer. 2

Nakai convened the Society’s core members on May 20 and presided over the apparent descent of the Holy Infant into the child’s corpse. Entrusted with two Holy Son Pills, he strategically gave them to the youngest and oldest core members, using the miracles of rejuvenation and recovery to bind the group more tightly to his leadership. 2 3

He organized the June 5 Spirit Gathering Ritual, presenting its rites, contribution system, and doctrine to members as expressions of the Holy Infant’s will. When desperate followers tried to exploit other recipients or contest the distribution of pills, Nakai used both threats and his superhuman strength to enforce discipline. 4

Following the subway massacre and the police investigation into the Society, Nakai moved its remaining loyal members underground. He later confronted Criminal Investigation Department Director Odagiri Masanobu, reveling in his ability to dominate a former authority figure. Odagiri committed suicide rather than kill his injured subordinate at Nakai’s command, but secretly transferred Tracking Pheromone to Nakai beforehand. 8 10

The tracking led investigators to Nakai’s Tokyo Bay warehouse hideout. During the ensuing siege, the Holy Infant granted him Regeneration and ordered him to delay the attackers. Nakai hurled burning debris at the defensive line with Super Strength, then escaped alongside the Ninth Guardian. After surviving sniper fire, he underwent a mutation that produced Offense-Defense Integration. 11 12

After the Holy Infant Society reached a temporary accommodation with the authorities, Nakai resumed leadership in a lower-profile capacity. Rather than immediately recruit on a large scale, he focused on recovering and stabilizing veteran members, particularly those who had consumed Holy Son Pills. 32 33

He later oversaw initiation ceremonies involving the Hirosue family and other influential newcomers. By the winery ceremony, he and Nobuo Hirosue jointly carried the Holy Infant’s coffin, while Nakai announced the recipients selected for Holy Son Pills. 17 41

Nakai was fifty years old when he received the Holy Son Pill, though its effects made him appear no older than forty. Before his transformation, he maintained a mild-mannered appearance suited to his role as a corporate and religious leader. 2

He developed genuine faith in the being he had once invented, becoming manic, ambitious, and increasingly convinced that he served a righteous purpose. He regards opposition to the Society as an obstruction to the Holy Infant’s benevolence rather than as a response to his own crimes. 2 10

Nakai is also pragmatic and politically capable. He prioritizes members who can become dependable followers, manages distribution to cultivate loyalty, and later chooses to stabilize existing members rather than pursue reckless expansion. 3 33
