Daigo took one last look at the sky before turning and running toward the elevator. By now, the Dark Energy filling the air had grown denser and denser, making even breathing difficult.
Inside the command room, Mizuno was frantically hammering at the keyboard.
"The energy readings have surpassed the highest level in history! And they're still rising!"
On the main screen, footage of the R'lyeh Ruins made everyone suck in a breath. The previously calm sea was now boiling, a massive whirlpool forming as pitch-black seawater seemed ready to devour everything.
Suddenly, the lights throughout the command room began to flicker violently, while the instruments blared piercing alarms.
"The energy readings have exceeded the limit!"
Mizuno's voice had nearly turned shrill.
"Boom!"
A tremendous crash sounded in the distance, and the entire base shook. Daigo stared fixedly at the screen, where an enormous black pillar of light shot up from the sea. Within it, a gigantic figure was slowly rising.
It was a monster difficult to describe in words. It had a nautilus-like shell covered in spikes and tentacles, an inverted head, and enormous pincers gleaming with icy light in the darkness.
Simply seeing it through the screen brought a suffocating sense of pressure.
"Gatanothor."
Daigo muttered to himself.
