Background / History

Nuwa investigates the abyss left by the Purple Heaven Divine Lightning that annihilated the Old Earth Dragon. Using her knowledge of cause and effect and the Dao of Creation, she determines that the Earth Dragon’s death does not match ordinary heavenly punishment. Her Creation Tracing technique reconstructs fragments of the event, but the crucial heavenly secrets have been erased by a higher power. After waiting at the site for a century, she detects a faint yet exceptionally pure aura of merit and follows it to the Nameless Low Mountain. 19

There, Nuwa finds Lu Changsheng’s three-thousand-layer formation. Though she considers its construction crude, wasteful, and aesthetically poor, its layered traps intrigue her. Rather than destroy it through force, she spends a hundred years carefully dismantling its outermost hundred arrays with Creation Azure Light. 19 20

Her first contact with Lu Changsheng is marked by mutual suspicion. Lu Changsheng mistakes her for an enemy and threatens her from behind his formations, while Nuwa repeatedly explains that she came only out of curiosity and offers spiritual materials as compensation. Once he reveals a trace of his Great Dao Merit aura, Nuwa recognizes him as an incarnation of Great Dao Merit and understands why the Heavenly Dao had punished the Old Earth Dragon. She immediately changes from probing the formation to treating Lu Changsheng with solemn respect. 21 24

Nuwa remains outside the mountain for three thousand years, meditating on the merit aura, Lu Changsheng’s formations, and the altered Earth Veins. She later opens a peaceful exchange by offering a drop of Three Lights Divine Water for a Red Sun Fruit. After identifying herself as “Nuwa, of Mount Buzhou,” she completes the trade despite Lu Changsheng’s elaborate precautions. 25 27 28

Her philosophical debate with Lu Changsheng becomes a turning point in her cultivation. Initially critical of his avoidance of danger, Nuwa comes to understand that self-preservation and avoiding calamity are fundamental to the continuation of life. This insight advances her Dao of Creation and carries her into the half-step Daluo Golden Immortal realm. She repays what she considers a debt of instruction with Nine Heavens Breathing Soil, a sound transmission jade slip, and information about Phoenix Fall Valley before continuing her travels. 29 30

Much later, during the collapse of Mount Buzhou and the flooding of the Primordial Land by Heavenly River Weak Water, Nuwa is identified as a Sage refining five-colored stones to mend the sky. 80

As a practitioner of the Dao of Creation, she values pure vitality, natural harmony, cause and effect, and the continuation of life. She can become irritated by Lu Changsheng’s suspicion and insults, but she continues attempting peaceful communication and later repays the karmic debt she believes she owes him. 23 26 30

Nuwa initially views Lu Changsheng’s extreme caution as contrary to the Great Dao. After reflecting on his arguments, she recognizes the survival value within his philosophy and incorporates that understanding into her own Dao. 29
