Cheng Tong asked with an envious look, "Fine, who is it?"
"Su Ningwei." Ye Chen decided not to hide it anymore.
Su Ningwei had already agreed to marry him, so it would have to be made public sooner or later anyway.
Since Cheng Tong was his best friend, there was even less reason to keep it from him.
Cheng Tong looked incredulous and asked in shock, "Who??? Su Ningwei? You don't mean the Su Ningwei, do you? Did I hear that right?"
"That's right, the very same Su Ningwei, the lead singer of the Rose Girl Group," Ye Chen replied.
Cheng Tong's eyes widened as he let out a curse, "Holy crap! You—you actually had a baby with our goddess idol? Is this for real?"
"It's real," Ye Chen confirmed.
Cheng Tong looked at him with envy and admiration. "Damn, that's legendary. No wonder Su Ningwei suddenly announced her retirement and vanished; she was off having your kids? You're a total winner in life! Are they boys or girls?"
"Two girls and one boy."
"A full house! Two little sweethearts, you're invincible! I'm so jealous... I'm still all alone over here..."
"Oh, cut it out. It wouldn't be hard for you to find a girlfriend; you just don't want to settle down yet. By the way, keep this a secret for me for now."
"I get it. Fame brings trouble, right? Public figures have to keep a low profile. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
"Thanks. I plan to move in with my wife and kids to take care of them, so I'll be a full-time stay-at-home dad for a while. Could you help me turn down my part-time gigs for now?"
"Sure, I've got it. Is fifty thousand enough? If not, I've got another ten thousand or so I can transfer to you. Use it for now; expenses really pile up once you have kids."
"That's plenty. Thank you so much." Ye Chen didn't actually need to borrow money from Cheng Tong, but since he hadn't figured out how to explain the source of his own funds yet, he decided he would pay him back with interest in a little while.
Cheng Tong replied, "Don't mention it, we're brothers. If you need more, just let me know. It's not easy being a dad these days, so just speak up if you need help. They say sons bring luck and daughters bring wealth—things will only get better from here."
"Thanks. Once I'm settled, I'll invite you all to the wedding." Ye Chen felt a warmth spread through his heart.
Cheng Tong laughed, "Sounds good. I've got to get back to work, call me if you need anything."
Ye Chen thought about how such a major life event—getting married and having children—should ideally be shared with his parents immediately.
However, everything had happened so suddenly. Mountain City was far from the Magic City, and with his parents still running their shop and Ye Dashan's health requiring Li Juan's care, he decided to wait until he was settled before breaking the news to them.
After tidying up the kitchen, Ye Chen was still too excited to sleep. While Su Ningwei and the three babies were resting, he had a delivery service buy some supplements Su Ningwei needed, and he went online to order some baby clothes and other essentials.
The babies had been asleep for nearly three hours when they began to stir and wake up, smacking their little lips as they grew hungry again.
Ye Chen immediately went to soothe the three little ones, terrified of waking Su Ningwei.
Su Ningwei, who had been drifting in a deep sleep, heard the babies fussing and felt a twinge in her chest, which woke her up.
"The babies must be hungry," Su Ningwei said. "Bring them over so I can feed them."
"Alright. I wanted to let you sleep a bit longer; being a mother is truly exhausting." Seeing that she was awake, Ye Chen brought the baby who was crying the loudest over to her.
It really was the crying baby that got the milk.
Su Ningwei lifted her shirt and smiled, "It's not exhausting. The babies will grow up eventually, and I love the feeling of them needing me. You're the one who's tired from cooking, cleaning, and taking care of both me and the babies."
"Being your husband and the father of these babies is a joy," Ye Chen said, leaning down to kiss Su Ningwei's forehead.
Such a wonderful wife—it was impossible not to love her.
Soon, all three babies were fed and lying quietly in their cribs, observing their new world.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"I'm the nurse, here for rounds," a voice said from outside.
Ye Chen quickly pulled the curtain shut and went to open the door.
After entering and checking on the babies, the nurse asked, "Have the babies passed their meconium?"
"Yes, they have," Ye Chen replied quickly.
The nurse nodded and asked, "Did you change these diapers?"
"Yes, is something wrong?" Ye Chen asked nervously.
The nurse smiled, "No, it's just the first time I've seen a new father handle it so well. You're quite a capable new dad."
"Nurse, could you help us with a DNA test?" Su Ningwei asked.
The nurse looked at Su Ningwei, then at Ye Chen, with a hint of surprise.
Ye Chen was also confused; he was just about to say that he trusted her and didn't need a test.
Su Ningwei smiled and explained, "We haven't registered our marriage yet, and a DNA paternity test is required for the birth certificate."
Ye Chen realized that was the case. It was probably for the best; it would put an end to any wild speculation from others.
"Certainly," the nurse nodded and took samples from the babies and Ye Chen.
After collecting the samples, the nurse checked on Su Ningwei's recovery and asked, "Has your milk come in?"
"Yes, it has," Su Ningwei nodded shyly, too embarrassed to mention that Ye Chen had helped her massage it out.
The nurse nodded and said, "That's good. I need to press on your abdomen to help expel the lochia. It will be a bit painful, so you'll have to bear with it."
Su Ningwei had received anesthesia and a pain relief pump before giving birth, so she hadn't felt much pain during the delivery. She assumed that pressing on her abdomen to expel the lochia wouldn't be painful either.
"It's fine, go ahead," Su Ningwei replied with a smile.
The confinement nanny skills in Ye Chen's mind told him that this abdominal massage was no simple matter; it was excruciating.
"I'll stay with you. If it hurts, just squeeze my hand to vent," Ye Chen said, sitting on the stool beside Su Ningwei and taking her hand in his.
The nurse glanced at Ye Chen, thinking he was a truly excellent man.
Su Ningwei smiled and squeezed Ye Chen's hand back, replying, "How much could it possibly hurt? I'm on a pain relief pump."
The nurse stepped forward, carefully avoiding the incision, and began to press down on Su Ningwei's uterus, which had not yet contracted.
"Ah—it hurts!" Su Ningwei cried out in pain instantly.
This was far too painful...
The sensation was even more intense than during childbirth.
Tears welled up in Su Ningwei's eyes involuntarily, and her hand instinctively gripped Ye Chen's hand tightly.
Ye Chen felt his hand being squeezed painfully, but it was nothing compared to the heartache he felt for her, and his love for Su Ningwei deepened even further.
To ensure Su Ningwei's proper recovery, the nurse did not go easy on her, finishing the massage thoroughly before pulling her hands away.
By the time the nurse left the ward, Su Ningwei's face had turned pale from the pain, and a fine sheen of sweat had broken out on her forehead.
Realizing she might have hurt Ye Chen, Su Ningwei hurriedly loosened her grip and checked his hand with a look of concern.
She saw that Ye Chen's hand had been bruised from her grip.
