Background / History

Shrek and Long Bing

Wu Zhangkong was raised under the guidance of Zhuo Shi, a Sea God Pavilion elder whom he once deeply respected. He was later sent down from Shrek Academy to Eastsea City. His early experiences left him distrustful of the Federation and particularly hostile toward people who advanced through connections 4 79 149 159.

His lover, Long Bing, died saving him after they had privately pledged themselves to each other. Wu blamed Zhuo Shi and others for failing to defend her when she was falsely accused. Her death remained the central wound behind his estrangement from his mentor 159 161.

Lin An’s Enrollment

Before Lin An reached Eastsea Academy, Wu anxiously ordered Tang Wulin to locate him, warning that losing such an important visitor could have fatal consequences. At their first meeting, however, he openly doubted the claim that a ten-year-old had independently designed One-Word Battle Armor. He interpreted Zhuo Shi’s instruction not to provoke Lin An as another concession to powerful interests 1 4.

When Lin An missed class, Wu imposed extra laps on the students and went to retrieve him personally, refusing to recognize leave approved by Long Hengxu. Even after learning that Rainbow Light Verdict protected Lin An through a continuously active True God Domain, he waited outside the dormitory over the absence 26 27.

His hostility did not prevent him from checking Lin An’s condition after sensing an evil aura nearby. Using gentle, cold Soul Power, he examined Lin An’s meridians and determined that his mind had suffered a minor blow requiring rest 30.

Class Five’s Training

Wu replaced ordinary lessons with combat practice and required support-type Soul Masters to participate. He stopped Gu Yue from continuing her assault on Tang Wulin and warned that refusing to concede against a superior opponent was recklessness rather than courage 16 20.

He also led Class Five into an industrial district for a run without Soul Power, exposing the students to polluted rain that stimulated cultivation while causing coughing, bleeding, and hair loss. Although he muttered that the method was not his idea, he told a distressed student to leave if she lacked the resolve to continue 76 77.

When Tang Wulin returned as Tang Wuling, Wu introduced her as Tang Wulin’s younger sister, claiming that her brother had met with misfortune. His private reaction showed that he understood the circumstances behind the new identity 72.

Class Advancement Tournament

Long Hengxu used a photograph of Long Bing to reveal that her soul might still exist. Wu agreed to arrange Lin An’s competition slot, while threatening anyone who harmed her 91.

He subsequently prepared Lin An, Gu Yue, Tang Wuling, and Xie Xie for the Class Advancement Tournament through a demanding two-week schedule. His assessments emphasized Xie Xie’s insufficient Soul Power and Lin An’s poor physical condition; he said Lin An would have to withdraw if he could not endure training 118.

Gu Yue’s Space Slash nearly killed Tang Wuling during practice, and Wu admitted to himself that he had failed to react in time. He regarded the attack as attempted murder and was disturbed by Gu Yue’s apparent confidence that her powerful connections would shield her from consequences. Before the tournament, he specifically warned her not to kill competitors with Space Slash 131 141.

At the judges’ table, Wu publicly demanded a competition without backroom deals. Zhuo Shi guaranteed fair results, while Principal Yu Zhen warned Wu about antagonizing influential figures. Wu denied taking money when Class Four accused him of fixing the match, though thoughts of Long Bing’s soul weakened his certainty 150.

Finding Long Bing

Yu Zhen supplied Long Bing’s information and a Spirit Ascension Platform slot. After staff obstructed Wu’s entry, Zhuo Shi used his token to help him gain access. Wu rejected his mentor’s warnings and entered the Spirit Realm to search Zone B-7 158 159.

There he found Long Bing reduced to a palm-sized, unstable soul form, selling supplements to pay for server resources. Her display labeled her an Evil Soul Master, a Holy Spirit Cult Heavenly King, and Dark Hummingbird’s daughter; the red-name designation left her without ordinary legal protection 160.

Wu transferred 100,000 Federal Credits to upgrade her server and stabilize her soul. Long Bing no longer recognized him, having lost memories through inadequate backups. He withheld their former relationship rather than risk sounding like a scammer 161.

Universe Life Technology’s Other Shore Type I rebirth body offered a possible route back to physical life, but its basic model started at 28.88 million Federal Credits. Wu nevertheless resolved to obtain one for her, even if doing so required selling his Battle Armor 161 162.

Financial Decline and Class Zero

To support Long Bing, Wu began selling equipment, livestreaming, and accepting advertisements. He promoted Ice Crystal Beauty Toner and filmed Lin An to increase traffic, drawing Leng Yaozhu’s anger over his use of Lin An’s popularity 174 203.

During the Holy Spirit Cult’s stadium attack, Wu confronted Dark Hummingbird about his daughter and launched a combined sword attack. Dark Hummingbird shattered it and seized him by the throat; Zhuo Shi intervened and rescued him 187 188.

After Class Zero formed, Wu mixed the seating of the former Class Five and Class One students to prevent them from remaining rival groups. He then reviewed tournament footage to teach scouting, target selection, resource management, and mutual protection 204 211 212 213.

Long Bing’s upkeep continued consuming his savings, salary, equipment, and livestream income. When she suggested economizing, he held his Skyfrost Sword across his neck and declared that he would rather die than lose her soul as well 203 278.

Free Spirit Realm Access

Wu announced eight hours of unrestricted daily Spirit Ascension Platform access for Class Zero as though it were the result of his efforts. Long Hengxu revealed that the Spirit Pagoda was covering the expenses as a favor to Lin An, and that Wu had chiefly been seeking an equivalent entry slot for himself 277.

The arrangement let him visit Long Bing without first calculating his remaining funds. He became anxious that Lin An might dislike the Spirit Realm and jeopardize the continuing benefit, despite retaining his outwardly cold expression 278 281.

Later, Wu privately questioned Eastsea City’s advertised 95% resettlement rate, suspecting that unwanted people might have been removed rather than employed. He acknowledged that he had no evidence and did not share the suspicion with his students. When former colleague Ye Yingluo called begging for help with her debts, he transferred what little he could afford, but it was insufficient 286 287.

He punched Xie Xie for addressing him as a “bro” and threatened daily visits to the Xie Family if the student reported him 77 94 279.

Beneath his aloofness, he remains intensely attached to Long Bing. Her continued existence matters more to him than financial security, possessions, or his former image.
