After Obito Uchiha and the others left, Might Duy walked over to Uchiha Mirai again.
"You're Uchiha Mirai, right?"
"I often hear Guy mention you. He sees you as an opponent he'll spend his whole life trying to catch up to."
Might Duy said with an easygoing smile.
"Actually... compared to me, Kakashi is a more suitable opponent for Guy."
Uchiha Mirai replied calmly.
Being treated by Guy as someone he had to surpass was hardly something to be happy about.
Kakashi was much better suited for that kind of thing.
"If he can't even surpass Kakashi, then he isn't qualified to challenge you?"
"As expected of a genius who can even defeat Kakashi. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil—this is youth!"
"I'll pass your words on to Guy. I won't disturb you any longer."
With that, Might Duy took the mission slip and hurried away.
Watching his retreating figure, Uchiha Mirai's mouth twitched.
Was that what he had meant?
"So that's the legendary Eternal Genin? He does look kind of foolish."
Asuma Sarutobi could not help but comment.
"Asuma, never underestimate anyone."
Shinku Yuhi said gravely.
He had sensed a dangerous aura from Might Duy.
That man was definitely not as simple as he appeared.
"I was only telling the truth."
Asuma Sarutobi replied unwillingly.
Still a genin at his age—what was there about someone like that worth taking seriously?
"Mirai, what do you think?"
Hearing Asuma Sarutobi's answer, Shinku Yuhi turned his gaze toward Uchiha Mirai.
As a transmigrator, Uchiha Mirai naturally knew Might Duy's strength.
He was a ruthless man who had nearly wiped out the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist by himself.
So without hesitation, he said, "Ignorance isn't what keeps a ninja from surviving. Arrogance is."
To Not Lose to Anyone, First Recognize Your Own Weakness ### "Ignorance isn't what keeps a ninja from surviving. Arrogance is..."
Repeating Uchiha Mirai's words, Shinku Yuhi's eyes lit up.
As a ninja who had experienced countless brushes with death, he naturally understood the weight of those words.
Over the years, he had seen too many ninja die because of arrogance.
Whether weak or strong.
The ninja who survived the line between life and death had always been cautious by nature. Even when facing the weakest opponent, they never let down their guard.
"No wonder he has almost none of the personality flaws commonly found in the Uchiha Clan... So he already has such awareness at this age."
The more Shinku Yuhi looked at Uchiha Mirai, the more he liked him.
Wasn't this the perfect model of a ninja?
Talent, strength, character... no matter how one looked at it, there was not a single flaw to be found.
Even Shinku Yuhi often found himself benefiting from the things he said.
A thought suddenly arose in Shinku Yuhi's heart: perhaps the Uchiha Clan... even Konoha itself, would be transformed in Mirai's hands one day!
"Asuma, Kurenai, you two should learn from Mirai. Strive to become outstanding ninja yourselves, understand?"
"Mm-hmm, I understand!"
Even Shinku Yuhi had been surprised by Uchiha Mirai's words, so Kurenai Yuhi was even more impressed. She nodded repeatedly like a pecking chick.
Seeing the admiration and delight in their eyes, Asuma Sarutobi felt utterly stifled.
Having someone show off in front of him every day felt worse than eating shit.
Damn it!
When would he get the chance to show Uchiha Mirai up instead?
Within the dense forests of the Land of Fire, four figures darted swiftly through the trees.
As the scenery rushed backward around them, excited expressions appeared on both Kurenai Yuhi's and Asuma Sarutobi's faces.
This was the first time they had left the village since they were born—and they were doing so as ninja.
Though these trees were no different from the ones in the village, they still found them incredibly novel.
Uchiha Mirai silently adjusted his breathing, keeping himself in peak condition at all times.
It was nearing dusk when Shinku Yuhi finally stopped.
"Rest for now. We'll make camp here tonight."
Hearing Shinku Yuhi's arrangement, Asuma Sarutobi dropped onto the ground.
After traveling for so long, his legs could not stop trembling slightly.
If he had not been afraid of being outdone by Uchiha Mirai in front of Kurenai Yuhi, he probably would not have lasted this long.
Kurenai Yuhi was in much the same state.
Only Uchiha Mirai, the moment the group stopped, immediately began skillfully setting traps around the campsite.
With his constitution multiplied several times over, his physical abilities were simply not something Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi could compare to.
Before long, Uchiha Mirai had finished setting the traps.
Watching him, Shinku Yuhi could not help but feel a little ashamed.
When he had first left the village on a mission, he had been far inferior to this disciple of his.
"Mirai, your Trap Setting is quite good."
When Uchiha Mirai returned, Shinku Yuhi spoke first.
"Hehehe... Father, you didn't know, did you? Mirai sets traps at home all the time~"
Kurenai Yuhi explained with some pride.
"..."
Seeing Kurenai Yuhi's expression, Shinku Yuhi felt slightly depressed.
He felt as though his daughter was gradually drifting farther and farther away from him.
Taking out several Soldier Pills, Shinku Yuhi stuffed them into his mouth.
The sour, bitter, astringent taste made Shinku Yuhi frown slightly.
They really were as awful as ever!
"Father, Mirai's cooking is incredibly delicious. Once this mission is over, you can find a chance to try it. It'll definitely knock your socks off."
Seeing Shinku Yuhi's expression, Kurenai Yuhi immediately said.
"Got it."
Shinku Yuhi helplessly rubbed Kurenai Yuhi's head.
Whenever she started talking about Uchiha Mirai, the child simply could not stop.
"Mirai, we'll take turns keeping watch tonight. No problem?"
Not wanting to listen to Kurenai Yuhi chatter on, Shinku Yuhi took the initiative to change the subject.
"Fine."
"I'll take the first watch."
Uchiha Mirai hugged his long blade to his chest and sat down on a tree branch at a suitable height.
"Keeping watch?"
"I can do that too."
Not wanting to be outdone by Uchiha Mirai, Asuma Sarutobi volunteered to stand watch.
"Asuma, your body is already close to its limit, isn't it?"
"If you don't rest properly, you could run into problems while traveling tomorrow."
Shinku Yuhi tried to persuade him.
He knew Asuma Sarutobi wanted to show off in front of him and his daughter, but there was really no need for it.
Trying to compete with someone like Uchiha Mirai was just asking for trouble, wasn't it?
If they encountered some unexpected situation while traveling tomorrow, a lack of sufficient stamina and focus could very well cause things to develop in the worst possible direction.
"Teacher Shinku, if Uchiha Mirai can do it, then so can I!"
Asuma Sarutobi insisted.
Shinku Yuhi frowned. Just as he was about to say something, Uchiha Mirai's voice rang out. "If you don't want to lose to anyone, then first recognize your own weakness."
Asuma Sarutobi clenched his fists. "What do you mean by that?"
"We're carrying out a mission, not playing ninja games." Uchiha Mirai snorted coldly. "Your pointless pride will make you dead weight and drag down your comrades."
"Do you want to get all of us killed?"
"I..."
At Uchiha Mirai's questioning, Asuma Sarutobi's face flushed red, yet he could not find any reason to refute him.
"If you keep treating missions like a game, then once this mission is over, withdraw from the squad yourself."
With the supervising Jonin offering no opinion, as squad leader, he had absolute authority.
A ninja disobeying orders was a very serious matter.
Faced with Uchiha Mirai's cold gaze, Asuma Sarutobi lowered his head.
As the Hokage's son, he naturally knew what would happen if he defied orders during a mission.
Besides, continuing to argue would only make everyone think even less of him.
"S-Sorry... I was wrong."
"Rest!"
Uchiha Mirai turned his gaze back toward the distant woods, and the camp fell silent once more.
Kurenai Yuhi secretly glanced at Uchiha Mirai sitting in the tree, her eyes sparkling like stars.
He could even make someone like Asuma Sarutobi obediently listen...
He was simply too cool!
I like him so much!
Shinku Yuhi also abandoned his original plan to secretly keep watch with Uchiha Mirai and went to sleep in peace.
Mirai might still be young, but he felt unexpectedly dependable.
