History

Founding and early rule

Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara founded Konoha after uniting to end the Warring States Period, replacing clan-based mercenary warfare with the “one country, one village” system. Hashirama became its First Hokage, while Madara eventually left after concluding that the new system would foster future darkness; the Uchiha clan nonetheless chose to remain in the village 31.

After Hashirama's death, Tobirama Senju became Second Hokage. His administration gradually excluded the Uchiha from Konoha's political center, relocated their compound to the village outskirts, and assigned them responsibility for public security through the newly created Konoha Military Police Force 31.

Hiruzen Sarutobi era

During Hiruzen Sarutobi's rule, multiple major clans were allegedly weakened through political suppression, unfavorable battlefield assignments, and internal schemes. The Senju clan was depleted after its members were repeatedly sent to war fronts, while the Uchiha, Hyuga, Aburame, and Kurama clans also suffered restrictions or decline 133.

The Uchiha were especially isolated through surveillance, slander, and unreasonable missions. Their worsening position under Hiruzen and Danzō created the conditions for Uchiha Mirai's later seizure of power 162.

Third Shinobi World War

Konoha mobilized border patrols after confirming Sunagakure's preparations for war, deploying Mirai alongside Kurenai Yūhi and Asuma Sarutobi 24. Mirai's battlefield victories became decisive for the village's reputation:

• He defeated the Fourth Raikage A and severed his arm, forcing Kumogakure's retreat 45 46.
• He killed the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, greatly increasing his prestige among Konoha's population 54.
• His Susanoo routed Sunagakure forces and killed more than five hundred Sand ninja in a single engagement 60 61.
• His complete Susanoo devastated a Mist Village stronghold so severely that the island was nearly sunk 72.

Uchiha takeover

As captain of the Konoha Military Police Force, Mirai publicly defined its duty as maintaining village security through “fairness” regardless of an offender's background 80. He assembled support from the Nara, Akimichi, and Yamanaka clans before moving against the Hokage faction 103.

After Hiruzen's arrest, Mirai's faction took control of Konoha's governing authority with support from the village's clan heads 111. Mirai then publicly dismissed Hiruzen from the Hokage position and destroyed his face on the Hokage Rock 138.

Mirai was inaugurated as Konoha's Fourth Hokage with overwhelming public support. The First Princess of the Land of Fire kneeling before him symbolized the new submission of the noble class to ninja authority 150.

Divine Nation era

After becoming Hokage, Mirai abolished the Daimyo system and elevated ninja above royalty and nobility 240. He conquered the Lands of Wind, Water, Lightning, and Earth, using the five great nations as the basis for the Divine Nation. Konoha's former Hokage system remained relevant, but the Five Kage became regional administrators under Mirai as sole Emperor 240.

Government and security

• Hokage's Office — Konoha's principal administrative office. Minato Namikaze later manages its workload with exceptional efficiency while serving under Mirai's broader rule 210.
• Konoha Military Police Force — Created by Tobirama and assigned to the Uchiha clan; responsible for Konoha's public security 31.
• Uchiha-era policing — Under Captain Mirai, the Police Force publicly enforced equal treatment regardless of social or political status 80.
• Border control — Entry to the village requires a pass; Izumo Kamizuki and Kōji Kōji enforce this policy at Konoha's entrance 324.
• Divine Nation administration — The Five Kage retain regional authority, but answer to Emperor Uchiha Mirai 240.

Infrastructure and districts

Central Arena

The Central Arena lies east of the village near Tanzaku Quarter. It can hold approximately ten thousand spectators and hosts large-scale events such as the joint Chunin Exam 130.

Tanzaku Quarter

Tanzaku Quarter is Konoha's principal entertainment district, containing gambling establishments, geisha houses, and mixed-bathing hot springs. Its location beside the Central Arena brings major crowds during examinations and public events 130.

Modernization

Konoha underwent rapid reconstruction and expansion under Mirai's government.

• The village developed tall buildings, clean streets, dense commercial districts, and large public display screens 209.
• Wide, weather-resistant roads and steel rail lines connect the area to wider trade routes; trains transport supplies across the Ninja World 239 254.
• Later development introduced automobiles, aircraft, ships, computers, airships, spacecraft, and intelligent puppets 304 333.
• The village expanded to dozens of times its former size, becoming a technological and military hub for the Divine Nation 333.

Society and education

• Konoha opened itself to merchants during the joint Chunin Exam, drawing visitors from major villages, smaller ninja villages, noble courts, and commercial groups 130.
• The Ninja Academy accepts resettled children such as Temari, Kankurō, and Gaara after their relocation from Sunagakure 225.
• Chunin Promotion Exams attract elite Genin from across the Divine Nation; successful candidates may remain in Konoha as ninja 310.
