Cultivation is central to human society. Mortals seek spiritual roots to sense and absorb spiritual energy, practice cultivation techniques, extend their lives, and escape the limits of ordinary life. 1

History

Human–Demon Competition

After an earlier Human–Demon War, both sides agreed that Nascent Soul cultivators and above would no longer openly wage war, preventing a catastrophe that could destroy either race. Competition for resources was instead concentrated among younger cultivators through the Flying Flower Secret Realm and its rankings. 132

The rankings determine the distribution of resources for the following century. In the preceding cycle, the Human Race suffered an overall defeat and was forced to surrender substantial resources to the Demon Race. 132

During the next Flying Flower trial, sixty human sect teams—three hundred prodigies in total—entered separate trial regions from the Demon Race. Su Yun's emergence gave the Human Race a fourth Golden Core-level combatant and erased its prior disadvantage against the Demon Race's four elite royal-clan descendants. 143 150 The trial ultimately ended in a crushing Demon Race defeat, placing the Nine Provinces' resources under Human Race control for the next century. 166

Human–Demon War

Fearing Su Yun's rise and unwilling to accept the Flying Flower defeat, the Demon Race tore up the pact and launched a surprise invasion of the Nine Provinces. Human border cities, small sects, and ordinary residents suffered severe losses before the wider population could mobilize. 166

The Human Race's three Spirit Transformation Venerables—Taiqing, Thunder, and Youluo—called on all sects, families, and cultivators to set aside private disputes and defend their territory. 166 167 After Venerable Youluo was killed in a sneak attack, Su Yun intervened and killed the three Demon Venerables with a single palm strike, preventing the collapse of the human side. 167

The human armies then counterattacked for a year, reclaiming every lost territory and driving the Demon Race back into the Ten Thousand Mountains. Su Yun later forbade their extermination, reasoning that external enemies would temper future human generations. 168

Spirit Realm Survival

Beyond the Nine Provinces, the Human Race is considered weak in the Spirit Realm. Most of the hundred-plus great domains are occupied by the Demon Race, Devil Race, primordial foreign races, or ancient desolate clans, leaving humans confined to the Clouddream Domain. 171

Two Mahayana cultivators are the principal deterrent preventing major foreign races from launching a full-scale assault on human territory. Despite this protection, humans endure continual suppression, harassment, and resource plundering by surrounding races. 171

Major Conflicts

Foreign-Race Coalition War

Following the deaths of four Water and Wood Race Body Integration envoys, the Water Race and Wood Race formed a coalition with the Stone, Shadow, and Blackwind Races. Their combined force included one hundred Body Integration cultivators and more than three hundred Void Refinement cultivators. 209

The coalition attacked the eastern, northern, and western borders simultaneously, exploiting the Human Race's long defensive line and smaller pool of roughly sixty Body Integration cultivators. Within half a month, humans lost two northern mines, three eastern defensive lines, and more than a dozen western outposts. 209

Su Yun requested permission to fight despite his status as Divine Child, arguing that a future pillar should shoulder responsibility rather than remain protected. Wang Wu eventually allowed him to support the eastern front anonymously while carrying a Great Vehicle teleportation talisman. 209

Operating as a gray-robed rogue cultivator surnamed Chen, Su Yun killed twenty-six foreign Body Integration cultivators in five days, including ten attackers who attempted to trap him at Soul-Severing Valley. 210
