Background / History

Gin originated in another world as a Death God. He was born in an impoverished district of Rukongai, where he met the starving Rangiku Matsumoto and gave her dried persimmons. After witnessing Rangiku injured in an incident connected to Aizen, Gin resolved to become a Death God, approach Aizen, and eventually avenge her. 430

A prodigy who completed Shin'o Academy in one year, Gin entered the Gotei 13, served as Fifth Division lieutenant, and later became captain of the Third Division. He followed Aizen for roughly a century while covertly seeking a way to overcome Kyoka Suigetsu's Complete Hypnosis. 430

Gin eventually betrayed the Soul Society alongside Aizen and Kaname Tosen, fleeing to Hueco Mundo. His assassination attempt on Aizen succeeded only briefly: Gin used Kamishini no Yari's cell-dissolving poison to wound Aizen and seize the Hogyoku, but Aizen evolved, tore off Gin's arm, and fatally pierced his chest. Gin died in Rangiku's arms in his original world. 430

Aizen later summons Gin into the shinobi world using the Hogyoku and the One-Tail's power. Gin accepts Aizen's invitation to cooperate and abandons his prior hidden agenda. 429

Gin is a tall, thin, pale-skinned man with silver hair, narrow eyes, and a habitual three-curved smile that gives him a fox-like, sinister appearance. His normally concealed eyes are sapphire-blue when opened. 430 451

Personality

In battle, he is patient and calculating. He begins fights to test opponents, exploits openings rather than rushing for a decisive exchange, and uses Shinso's range to endanger targets his enemies are trying to protect. 534 585 844

Aizen materializes Gin in a secluded valley through the Hogyoku and One-Tail's power. Gin immediately recognizes that he cannot sense spiritual pressure, but accepts Aizen's assurance that his Zanpakuto and Kido remain usable. He then accompanies Aizen and White Zetsu toward Konoha. 429 431

Gin quickly proves his value by effortlessly defeating Rock Ninja with Shinso, while Aizen expresses confidence in his potential. 434

Las Noches Conflict and Hollowfication

Gin exposes Aizen and Las Noches as outsiders to Tokino and Sakuya, then intentionally provokes Tokino into a fight to examine his Mangekyō Sharingan. Ulquiorra and Minato stop the conflict, and Gin accepts fifteen days in Las Noches' underground prison. 532 534

Conflict with the Five Kage

When Las Noches prepares to intercept the Five Kage, Gin chooses Minato as his target because of their prior connection and because it reduces suspicion toward Aizen. 757
