Along with the roar came a surge of bloodthirsty malice, crashing in like a tsunami. Beneath it, the crowds fell into utter chaos.
They screamed in terror, cried out helplessly, and fled for their lives...
The vast shopping mall had become a complete madhouse, as if the world were ending.
At some point, Bobby and the others had already left the restaurant. They stood behind Ororo and Scott. Bobby and John each had one hand covered in ice and the other wreathed in fire, guarding the two frightened women to keep the panicked crowd from attacking them from their blind spots.
The commotion caused by Dilos and Magneto's battle had been enormous. The sonic booms and the countless thunderclaps of lightning in the sky had drawn everyone's attention, like the wrath of some legendary god. But the monstrous roar that followed, along with its murderous aura, had thrown almost everyone into disarray.
It was strange, wasn't it? But that was what had happened. The aura filled everyone below with terror, as if they would die if they stayed there for even one more second. Most people lost control under its influence. Only a tiny handful managed to withstand it.
Bobby and the others were among that handful, but the aura was simply too terrifying. They couldn't act rationally; all they could do was endure the stiffness that nearly turned their bodies to stone and use their powers to protect themselves and their friends.
Honestly, if Ororo and Scott hadn't noticed them and rushed over in time, giving their fragile spirits a much-needed boost, they wouldn't have lasted much longer.
