"That's impossible, Sheriff."
Alec stared at the balding man nearing old age in disbelief as he explained, "Alicia may have made mistakes before, but she's changed. Besides, the two of us were out shopping all night yesterday. There was no way she could have attacked anyone during that time."
Alec truly hadn't expected that the day after he and Alicia visited Luthor's laboratory, the police chief would come knocking to tell him someone had been attacked inside a sealed room. He admitted that Alicia's teleportation ability could allow her to attack someone in a sealed room, but according to the time frame the sheriff described, it was completely impossible. Even if Alicia had wanted to attack someone, she and Alec had not been apart for a single moment during that period.
"Mr. Summers, I know you love your girlfriend, but don't lie because of it!"
The sheriff's voice carried barely restrained anger. His wide eyes fixed on Alec like those of a venomous snake. "I don't know how your girlfriend used to attack people in sealed rooms, but I can guess exactly what she is!"
"You'd better watch your words, Sheriff."
Alec gritted his teeth, suppressing the urge to unleash a high-voltage current and burn the overweight man before him to a crisp. He stepped forward and said, "Accusing someone without evidence is slander. And this is America—everything you just said already constitutes an infringement on her personal rights."
At that, the sheriff narrowed his eyes and reined in some of his displeasure before issuing Alec a warning.
"You'd better not let me find out you're lying. The alibi you provided is the only evidence stopping me from arresting her."
The sheriff gave Alec, who met his gaze without flinching, a long look before slowly leaving the student apartment.
