"Strange, are Compsognathus really that fierce? Surely they'd run once they'd suffered this many casualties?"
Watching from behind, Dilos couldn't help feeling puzzled. He remembered reading the old capture reports: once the Compsognathus had lost ten or twenty percent of their numbers, they would always flee. So why were they charging now like a bunch of miniature berserkers on a caffeine high?
"This isn't good." Dilos raised an eyebrow. Everyone here had a limited supply of ammunition. Taking down the two hundred or so Compsognathus earlier had already used up more than half the ammo carried by this twenty-man team. Once they ran out, they would have to change magazines, and there would inevitably be a brief pause in their fire. That would be enough time for the Compsognathus to reach the defensive line.

"Just as I thought."
Dilos had barely finished thinking it when someone ran out of bullets. The first man's magazine emptied, then a second and a third. They were quick and practiced, ejecting the empty magazines and loading fresh ones, but that brief pause left a gap in the defensive line.
The frenzied Compsognathus weren't about to give them time. In that short lull, more than twenty of them reached the soldiers.
In most situations, twenty-odd Compsognathus breaking through would have been enough to collapse the defensive line. But Dilos was here, after all!
In an instant, Dilos drove a mental spike into the Compsognathus' minds, making them freeze. That brief pause gave the soldiers time to reload and chamber their rounds. They didn't bother wondering why the Compsognathus had suddenly stopped. They simply raised their machine guns and opened fire!
Before long, the number of dead Compsognathus had climbed past five hundred, their bodies piled into a low wall across the ground. As
