The twenty-four hours of [Life Exchange] were drawing to a close, and Shi Tianwu's consciousness was about to depart from Lu Bian's body.
"Brother, I never expected you to know how to weave straw sandals!"
Shi Tianwu had gathered some wild vines and grasses to weave a few pairs of rough straw sandals for Lu Bian.
He still had a long way to go along the desolate mountain path, and he had no idea how long it would take to encounter another soul, so Shi Tianwu had woven five pairs for Lu Bian to keep as spares.
He did not answer Lu Bian as to why he, Shi Tianwu, knew how to weave straw sandals.
In truth, he didn't actually know how.
He had just figured it out on the spot.
"It might not be comfortable to wear, but it's just to protect your soles," Shi Tianwu remarked.
"Time is up, I'm leaving."
"Alright, see you in the chat group."
A dizzy sensation washed over Lu Bian, followed by a sudden feeling of lightness throughout his body; Lu Bian's body now belonged entirely to himself once again.
"..."
The moonlight was not as bright as it had been the previous night, and feeling a sense of physical exhaustion, Lu Bian chose to rest by the side of the desolate path for the night.
He would not travel by night.
The video chat with Edward Newgate, Whitebeard, had not ended; the banquet he had been hosting had concluded a while ago, and his crew members were either dead drunk or stuffed, all resting now.
Whitebeard leaned against a rock, gazing at the starry sky on his side.
"Big Brother, do you see anything?"
Lu Bian and Whitebeard were both lying back to rest, chatting as they did so.
"Nothing."
"I'm just looking," Whitebeard replied.
"The scenery on your side is much better than mine."
"This ocean? I grew tired of looking at it decades ago."
"Is that so?"
"I've never been to the seaside, let alone out to sea," Lu Bian said.
"You've never seen the ocean?" Whitebeard was surprised, but after a moment's thought, he realized it was normal for someone from another world.
"In my world, land is pitifully scarce; islands are scattered across the vast ocean like cookie crumbs."
"Land is incredibly precious."
"The mountains on your side must have been formed by a truly vast expanse of earth."
"Indeed."
"Then let's not turn off the video chat. I'll take you around, Big Brother, so you can see more of the scenery in my world."
"Guhahaha, sounds good."
The mountain wilderness on Lu Bian's side was indeed a sight Edward Newgate had never seen before.
It wasn't just the wild grass at his feet that was unfamiliar; even the surrounding trees were of species he had never encountered.
The mountains were towering, the vegetation lush, birds chirped, insects hummed, and the wind rolled the clouds; a hint of envy flickered in Whitebeard's eyes.
What fine land it was...
The next day, as soon as the sun rose, Lu Bian began his journey.
A faint mist hung over the desolate path winding through the mountains.
Lu Bian found a wooden stick and used it to beat the grass and bushes a meter or two ahead of him as he walked, startling away any snakes or insects.
If he were to be bitten by a venomous snake, there would truly be no one around to save him.
Whitebeard had woken up and was habitually resting his chin on his hand, watching Lu Bian walk through the video chat screen.
In the eyes of his crew-member sons, Father Whitebeard was just staring blankly at the sea again.
Edward Newgate was actually a rather quiet man; he spent a good portion of his days on the ship silently gazing into the distance, listening to the sea breeze, and only reacting when someone spoke to him first.
No one else could ever see the scenery that Whitebeard saw in his eyes.
[Beep...]
[Son Gohan has joined the chat group]
"Huh?"
"What is this?"
As soon as he entered the group, Son Gohan joined the video chat.
"Ah!!" Lu Bian stopped in his tracks.
Shi Tianwu, having returned to his own body, had not opened his video chat window, and Mr. Bruce Wayne was offline; at this moment, only the video chat boxes of Lu Bian and Edward Newgate, Whitebeard, were displayed.
Three video feeds suddenly appeared, arranged in a triangular formation within the fields of vision of Lu Bian and Whitebeard.
Son Gohan, the newest member to join the group, appeared before Lu Bian and Pops Whitebeard, and Son Gohan saw them both as well.
"Wow!! That's amazing~!!" Son Gohan exclaimed.
"To think it's a little kid!" Whitebeard said, also surprised.
"H-hello there..." Son Gohan greeted the two of them, looking a bit shy.
"Huh? For real?" Lu Bian was surprised too.
Lu Bian tapped on Son Gohan's avatar to check his age.
"Hello there, little Son Gohan."
"Are you seven years old this year?" Lu Bian asked.
"Eh, big brother, how did you know?" little Son Gohan asked.
"Because the group members have profile information. You can view this info by focusing your attention on the avatar."
"Really...!!"
Smart Son Gohan understood immediately after Lu Bian explained it.
Date of Birth: Age 757
Birthday: May 8th
Age: 7 years old
"Gohan, is it alright if I call you that?" Lu Bian asked.
"Hi, no problem at all." Son Gohan nodded.
"You already knew when you joined the chat group, right? The members of this group all come from other worlds."
"Mm, I know." little Son Gohan nodded.
"Are you studying right now? At home?"
"Mm~! My home computer has a teacher giving me lessons; it feels pretty similar to this chat group, right?" Son Gohan said honestly.
"Oh, so you're a good kid who loves to study?" Pops Whitebeard smiled kindly.
Looking at little Son Gohan's bowl-cut hairstyle in the video chat, Lu Bian thought of many things.
He wasn't very familiar with Edward Newgate; he hadn't watched much One Piece, but he had read the Dragon Ball manga and watched the anime more times than he could count.
Just by looking at Son Gohan's hairstyle and age at this moment, he was able to deduce a great deal of information.
"Gohan, is your dream to become a scholar when you grow up?" Lu Bian asked.
"Yes."
How amazing~! People from other worlds!
They knew what I was thinking the moment we met.
Little Son Gohan lowered his head slightly, sighing naively in his heart.
"Is your dad home?" Lu Bian asked.
"Do I need a guardian to keep chatting with you guys?" Son Gohan asked, looking a bit nervous.
"No, I was just a little curious."
"If your dad were around, I would be more mindful of what I say," Lu Bian said.
"Gurararara~~!!!"
Pops Whitebeard laughed.
As a father himself, he understood all too well the importance of being mindful of one's influence on a young child.
However, Lu Bian didn't actually mean it in the way Whitebeard understood.
"My dad isn't home, but my mom is," Son Gohan replied.
"Oh, I see."
"Gohan, do you need to study right now?" Lu Bian asked.
"It's my break time right now; I just finished my online class."
