Background / History

Lu Bian suffered from an incurable illness from age fourteen. Its recurring active phases caused extreme pain, high fevers, interrupted his education, and eventually forced him to leave college. He believed his condition was connected to his unusual ability to predict weather through bodily pain. 1 4

While attempting to defy his fate through a lottery jackpot, Lu Bian was struck by a truck and transmigrated into the ruins of an abandoned cultivation sect. In his new world, the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi that his body had lacked relieved his illness, giving him a healthy body and what he considers a second life. 1 3 15

Soon after arriving, Lu Bian discovered and founded a cross-world chat group. Shi Tianwu became its first administrator and mentor, teaching Lu Bian the Ultimate Boundless Qigong after temporarily taking control of his body through the group’s Life Swap function to save him from wolves. 1 3 4

After leaving the mountains, Lu Bian traveled through a world shaped by the events of Journey to the West. He cultivated, defeated bandits and demons, entered the Great Song Kingdom, and lived briefly in Dongjing as a laborer before becoming a stonemason. 15 17 20 21 22

The Howling Celestial Dog, acting for Erlang Shen, maimed Lu Bian’s hands and destroyed his statues of the Third Holy Mother and the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. Although Lu Bian initially swore revenge, he chose to withdraw to Dali, cultivate, and eventually heal himself rather than confront a god far beyond his current strength. 26 27 35

Later, Lu Bian rescued Chenxiang and learned that the child was the son of the imprisoned Third Holy Mother. Unable to defeat Erlang Shen himself, he promised to help Chenxiang become strong enough to rescue his mother, becoming the boy’s guardian and instructor. 46 47 48

Appearance

Lu Bian arrived in his new world thin, frail, and visibly unhealthy. Spiritual Qi, physical labor, and cultivation later transformed him into a tall, muscular man described as handsome and martial in bearing. 3 15 23

  • Initially stood approximately 1.75 meters tall before growing to seven feet after settling near Fuling Mountain. 15
  • Develops pronounced upper-body musculature through Ultimate Boundless Qigong training. 15
  • Often travels with a bamboo or wooden staff and a wine gourd. 39 50
  • His body may be surrounded by blue-white electricity when using magnetic power. 20

Personality

Lu Bian values a quiet, ordinary life more than fame, authority, or involvement in divine conflicts. His transmigration and growing strength do not erase his instinct to avoid trouble; after Erlang Shen’s provocation, he deliberately chooses retreat and cultivation over a hopeless act of revenge. 1 21 27

Despite this caution, he is compassionate when faced with suffering. He saves A-Quan from a ravine, protects villagers targeted by Black and White Impermanence, and intervenes when Chenxiang is offered to a lake demon. 44 45 46

He is practical, talkative, and prone to humor, particularly within the Chat Group. He also takes responsibility for his promises: after offering Chenxiang help, he refuses to mislead the child and commits himself to preparing Chenxiang to confront Erlang Shen. 4 5 47

Abilities & Skills

Magnetic Rotation

Lu Bian cultivates magnetic field power through the Ultimate Boundless Qigong. Its advancement strengthens his body, enhances his perception and thought, and grants increasingly supernatural abilities. 18 22

  • Can generate and channel electric power through his body and attacks. 19 20
  • Can influence weaker people’s thoughts and memories; he uses this ability to obtain household registration in Bianjing. 21
  • Can fly at the twentieth heaven, though doing so consumes energy. 46
  • Restores damaged tissue through cellular reconstruction after attaining the twentieth heaven. 35
  • Manipulates and reorganizes surrounding matter after surviving the thunder calamity. 49
  • No longer needs conventional food or drink after his later life metamorphosis; his body absorbs and converts external matter automatically. 44

Ultimate Boundless Qigong

A peerless martial art created by the Ultimate Monk of Shaolin and taught to Lu Bian by Shi Tianwu. It combines breathing, physical training, fist techniques, and Magnetic Rotation cultivation. 4 5

  • The Lu Bian Breathing Method, designed by Shi Tianwu, improves Lu Bian’s absorption and digestion of the world’s spiritual energy. 5
  • The Ultimate Arhat Fist is his principal combat art; he uses it against demons, bandits, and the lake monster. 17 20 46
  • His drunken practice modifies the art into the Drunken Dream Arhat Fist. 35
  • The art enables an ordinary practitioner with sufficient talent to potentially reach 500,000 horsepower of Magnetic Rotation. 4

Ultimate Palm Thunder

A lightning-based palm technique used to drive away Black and White Impermanence after they attempt to stop him from saving doomed villagers. 45

  • Its threat alone causes the soul-snatching emissaries to flee. 45

Cell Reconstruction Fist

A healing technique used to save seven villagers who were fated to die. 45

  • Allows Lu Bian to interfere with injuries and impending death.
  • His intervention attracts the attention of Yama, whose Book of Life and Death contains no record of Lu Bian. 45

Supreme World Shocking Era

A Magnetic Rotation martial art derived from the Book of Supreme World Ordering and uploaded by Shi Tianwu. It emphasizes extraordinary talent and insight rather than fixed forms. 10

  • Helps Lu Bian use starlight within his thoughts to develop the Dog Beating Technique. 39
  • Includes knowledge related to observing celestial phenomena. 10

Dog Beating Technique

Lu Bian’s self-created staff art, developed from his encounters with wolves and the Howling Celestial Dog. 38 39

  • Began as a technique for fighting dogs and wolves.
  • Lu Bian expands its intended scope to “dog-breeds and dog-donkeys.” 39
  • Uses his donkey as an unwilling sparring partner during development. 39

Stonemasonry and Sculpture

Under Shi Tianwu’s guidance, Lu Bian learns stonemasonry in Dongjing and rapidly surpasses the city’s other craftsmen. The work develops his Perfect Realm, a mental and technical aspect of magnetic cultivation. 22

  • Carves a Guanyin Bodhisattva statue that becomes an object of public worship. 22 23
  • Completes sculptures of the Third Holy Mother and the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. 25 26
  • Uses his later magnetic power to construct a two-story home for himself and Chenxiang in a single day. 48

  • Wooden or bamboo staff — Lu Bian’s preferred weapon; used for staff training and the Dog Beating Technique. 17 39 50

  • Edward Newgate — Chat Group member and sworn brother. Lu Bian respects Whitebeard and exchanges blessings, food, and alcohol with him. 8 10 36
  • Bruce Wayne — Chat Group member whom Lu Bian admires as Batman. Bruce later helps procure modern household supplies for Lu Bian through item exchange. 6 36
  • Kakashi Hatake — Chat Group member and training partner. They agree to keep each other accountable for cultivation and later trade food through the exchange function. 34 35 36

  • Stubborn Donkey — Lu Bian’s animal companion, transport, and occasional sparring partner. He repeatedly refuses to abandon or sell it. 16 22 39
  • Erlang Shen — A powerful divine adversary whose interference ruins Lu Bian’s work and leads to the crippling of his hands through the Howling Celestial Dog. Lu Bian avoids direct confrontation. 25 26 27
  • The Third Holy Mother — The goddess whose statue Lu Bian is commissioned to carve; her imprisonment motivates Chenxiang’s journey. 24 47
