The Copper Fragment is Shen Le’s ancestral heirloom. He wore it throughout his life on a red string around his neck, despite its lack of a suspension hole. It began changing only after Shen Le entered graduate school and started restoring cultural relics. 1

Its growth is directly tied to restoration. Each successful restoration can charge the fragment, enlarge its body, alter its markings, and provide Shen Le with energy, cultivation methods, spells, or talismans. The exact scale of its feedback is variable; major repairs and spiritual sites can produce overwhelming amounts of power. 3 187 306

As it expanded, Shen Le identified its original piece as a handle connected to a square bronze vessel. It later manifested as the Broken Bronze Tripod and then as an increasingly complete Bronze Tripod. Its ultimate identity remains unresolved, though Shen Le has considered whether it may be an exceptionally high-status ancient cauldron. 240 297 684

The map within the artifact appears tied to humanity’s historical reach. When a former monster-controlled spiritual-vein node was reclaimed, the Copper Fragment reacted with intense joy and recorded it as recovered territory. In its dormant state, the Copper Fragment is a mottled bronze piece about half the size of a palm. It can shrink back to this pendant-sized form, but expands dramatically when activated or fed sufficient restorative and spiritual energy. 1 241
