Background / History

The first documented threat near Qinghe Market began with three-toed, webbed claw marks trampling Green Jade Rice in the southern Spirit Field District. Li Yuan's investigation established that the beast had repeatedly flattened grass south of the fields and watched the district from cover rather than merely passing through 18 19. The culprit was later found sleeping nearby: a dark-green, scaled First-Order Mid-Grade demonic beast. Li Yuan's patrol team killed it and harvested its hide, bones, blood, and other materials 20.

Demonic beast activity subsequently intensified around the marketplace. Patrols encountered ambushes, mixed-species gatherings, and increasing concentrations of beasts farther southwest, including Iron-Spine Hyenas, Horned Lizards, and a Swamp Toad Beast 29 30. An Upper First-Order beast appearing east of the market later caused rogue cultivators to leave the area, as the wilderness routes had become increasingly dangerous 23.

The growing activity was not always natural. A beast tide attacked a camp in an abnormally aggressive state, with some continuing to bite even after sustaining fatal wounds 84. Repeated assaults on the Herb Garden were similarly suspicious, though Li Yuan's examination of a captured Badger Demon found no pills, implants, or visible signs of artificial alteration 103.

Later investigations revealed direct human interference. By the sea-region conflict, monster beasts operated in organized concentrations ranging from First- to Fourth-Order. Their attacks escalated from scattered groups to coordinated formations targeting islands with weak defenses and stored supplies, while the Monster Beast Alliance was confirmed to be cooperating with the Yuan Sect 541 558 565.

Appearance

Demonic beasts have no uniform anatomy; their appearance depends heavily on species, rank, habitat, and elemental affinity. They range from small hyenas and iguanas to massive lizards, aquatic beasts, and spatial-rift dwellers 30 215 462 687.

• Reptilian forms include scaled lizards with horns, forked tails, armored spines, or spatial patterns carved across their scales 67 215 687.
• Mammalian forms include wolves, hyenas, leopards, badgers, and dog-like beasts with fangs, bone spurs, dense fur, or natural armor 30 103 200 311.
• Aquatic forms include an Orca and a giant octopus, both of which possessed valuable Third-Order inner cores 462 463.
