Zhao Wuji is a broad, heavily built man whose presence is compared to an old bear leaving its cage. He has a rough, unkempt appearance and carries the oppressive aura of a Soul Sage. 78

Personality

Zhao Wuji is initially arrogant and confrontational, demanding that Duan Fan endure two slaps merely because Duan had defeated his students. His confidence gives way to caution after seeing Duan Fan’s abnormal Soul Ring configuration and summoned Soul Beasts, but the revelation that Duan is a Spirit Hall bishop drives him into open hostility. 78

Despite his rough demeanor, Zhao Wuji is pragmatic in battle. He recognizes when a fight has become untenable, retreats rather than dying for pride, and prioritizes extracting Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun from danger. His defiance remains intact after capture: he rejects Duan Fan’s offer to join Spirit Hall and would rather face punishment than submit to it. 79 84

He is also resourceful and bold. Having previously escaped an encirclement by sixteen Spirit Hall Bishops, he later breaks free during transport and chooses to hide again at Shrek Academy, believing the familiar location to be safest. 80 96

History

Zhao Wuji was already infamous to Spirit Hall before his encounter with Duan Fan. He had previously escaped an encirclement by sixteen Bishops, demonstrating both his strength and his willingness to flee when survival demanded it. 80

By the time of his first appearance, he was teaching at Shrek Academy. He confronted Duan Fan after Duan defeated three of his students, initially treating the younger Soul King as someone he could punish effortlessly. The sight of Duan’s five Soul Rings and numerous high-level summoned Soul Beasts forced Zhao Wuji to reassess the situation, but Duan’s identity as a Black-Robed Bishop of Spirit Hall made Zhao Wuji attack with lethal intent. 78

Conflict with Duan Fan

Zhao Wuji opened their first battle by chaining Gravity Enhancement, Position Tracking, and Gravity Squeeze. The sequence restricted Duan Fan but could not stop him from continuing to draw the Starry Night Deer. Duan’s already-summoned Soul Beasts—particularly Golden Armored Earth Dragons and Three-Eyed Griffins—kept Zhao Wuji from reaching him. 79

As the summoned creatures proved real, powerful, and indifferent to pain, Zhao Wuji chose to withdraw. He broke through their encirclement while carrying Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun, but Duan Fan’s Starry Night Deer caught him in its control field. Zhao Wuji activated his Martial Soul Avatar, yet successive Starry Night Deer and Soul Beast attacks continued to overwhelm him. 79 80

Flender’s intervention did not reverse the battle. Zhao Wuji watched Duan Fan physically contend with Flender, then sacrificed his own chance to flee by throwing Flender beyond the Starry Night Deer’s range. Duan Fan captured Zhao Wuji, offered him a chance to join Spirit Hall, and sealed his Soul Power after he refused. 83 84

Zhao Wuji was later transferred from Suotuo City’s Martial Soul Main Hall, but escaped en route to the Martial Soul Sacred Hall. He returned to Shrek Academy, where Duan Fan located him again. 86 96

During the second confrontation, Zhao Wuji ambushed Duan Fan in Martial Soul Avatar form, aiming to kill him with a full-power paw strike. Duan blocked it with one hand. Zhao Wuji then joined Flender and Lu Qibin in a combined assault, but Duan endured their control, gravity, and wind-blade attacks without using Soul Power. Zhao Wuji ultimately fled again when Duan revealed six Soul Rings and began drawing a Dark Demon Evil God Tiger. 98 99 100
