The Sea God Temple stood majestically atop the heart of the island. Bo Saixi brought Deng Tianxin down before the hall, pushed open the heavy stone doors, and entered.
The temple was utterly silent, with only watery light filtering down from the blue crystals in the dome.
"You can speak now." Bo Saixi's voice was soft, as though she feared disturbing the Sea God.
Deng Tianxin took out Tang Chen's token and offered it to her with both hands.
Bo Saixi did not accept it. Deng Tianxin gently placed the token on the edge of the altar before the divine statue, stepped back half a pace, and slowly began, "Senior asked me to tell you that he could not fulfill the promise you made back then. He asked you not to look for him. Just think of it... as if he were already dead."
Bo Saixi did not turn around.
The hall was so quiet that even her faint, slow breathing could be heard.
