Phoenix King was originally a college student before an accident led to his transmigration and rebirth as a Heavenly Demon Phoenix in the Douluo Continent. He wore Medicine Elder's ring from birth. The energy released when Phoenix King was born awakened the weakened soul entity, who initially taught him body-strengthening methods. After years of companionship, Medicine Elder accepted him as a disciple when Phoenix King reached three years old, judging him kind and loyal to those who treated him well. 1

Di Tian brought Phoenix King into the Star Dou Forest, where Gu Yuena took a particular interest in his Heavenly Demon Phoenix bloodline. Gu Yuena and Di Tian hoped that a future union between Phoenix King and Gu Yuena could produce an exceptional dragon-phoenix lineage; Medicine Elder intervened to ensure that Phoenix King would not be pressured into this while still a child. 1 2 3

Phoenix King learned that he was approximately ten years ahead of Tang San's birth and resolved to use that advantage to become strong enough to prevent Tang San's rise to godhood.
