Holy Soul Village.
Spirit Hall.
A handsome, arrogant young man was patiently helping a group of children awaken their Martial Souls.
"Your Martial Soul is a Green Onion."
"Innate Soul Power: Level One."
"A Green Onion? Not bad. At least you have some Soul Power. Little friend, I believe in you~"
Su Yuntao smiled at Du Hao, who stood before him. Though it was a Trash Martial Soul he couldn't imagine being of any use, at least the boy had some Soul Power. Soul Power meant results, and when it came to results, who cared about anything else?
"Thank you, Lord Soul Master!" Du Hao respectfully bowed to Su Yuntao, unable to hide his grin.
He had been in this world for several months now. When he learned this was the Douluo Continent and that he was about to awaken his Martial Soul, he'd been terribly worried, afraid he'd turn out to be some unlucky soul with no Soul Power.
Fortunately, he had at least one level of Soul Power. It wasn't exactly great, but it gave him a little hope.
Besides, how could a noble transmigrator possibly go without a cheat? A powerful cheat, at that?
After stepping aside, Du Hao glanced over at the others still undergoing their awakenings, puzzled. Wasn't anyone with Soul Power supposed to be recruited into Spirit Hall?
Why was everyone so indifferent about him?
Could they have looked down on his Green Onion Martial Soul?
Well... it wasn't as if he could blame them.
After all, with only one level of Soul Power, training a Green Onion up to level ten seemed likely to cost an ordinary person their life.
That was what he thought, anyway. But somehow, arriving in the Douluo Continent without receiving that blessing from the Blind-Eyed God King left him feeling like something was missing...
"Maybe I should ask Su Yuntao for a blessing?" Du Hao was still lost in thought when Su Yuntao began awakening the last child.
Naturally, the last one to awaken was Tang San. He always snuck around at the very end, making his entrance at the last possible moment.
And the protagonist of this world was that guy, Tang San. Fanfiction writers had mixed opinions about him, to say the least.
But one thing was undeniable: the guy was incredibly lucky.
He had started cultivating the Mysterious Heaven Skill as a child, came with two top-tier Martial Souls, and was a monstrous genius with innate full-level-ten Soul Power. His buffs were stacked sky-high.
By then, Tang San's awakening had reached its crucial moment. A tiny sprig of Blue Silver Grass appeared in his left hand, while Du Hao also noticed his right hand clenched tightly behind his back.
That had to be the Clear Sky Hammer itself.
Unfortunately, the kid had his hand clenched so tightly that Du Hao couldn't even see what the Clear Sky Hammer's patterns looked like.
Tang San's awakening had quite a grand spectacle to it. Even Su Yuntao, standing within the awakening array, had his eyes light up! For a moment, he felt like he'd just pulled a legendary golden prize!
'Wow! A legendary golden prize!' For some reason, that image suddenly flashed through Su Yuntao's mind.
Unfortunately, the higher the hopes, the greater the disappointment. What appeared before him was actually a sprig of Blue Silver Grass—and the most ordinary kind, at that.
"This... another Trash Martial Soul... Sigh~" Su Yuntao's dreams of promotion shattered instantly. He waved his hand in disappointment. "All right, you can leave."
With a Trash Martial Soul like this, Su Yuntao didn't even feel like testing the boy's Soul Power. He just wanted to send everyone on their way as quickly as possible.
"Uncle, you haven't tested my Soul Power yet!" Tang San, thick-skinned as ever, put on an innocent expression and asked.
Su Yuntao didn't even turn around. With a disappointed look, he said, "There's no need. I've never seen anyone with Soul Power from a Trash Martial Soul like Blue Silver Grass."
"Please, let me try, Uncle~" Tang San put on a pitiful expression.
In the end, Su Yuntao couldn't resist. The country boy looked so pitiful that he finally decided to test his Soul Power.
"What the heck? How does this thing have full Soul Power? Are you kidding me? I'd better hurry up and report this..."
Brother Tao was shocked.
Brother Tao was disdainful.
And just like that, the Blind-Eyed God King was back in position!
"Sigh, forget it. Who would pay attention to Blue Silver Grass? A Trash Martial Soul like that..."
After all, in his mind, anything that wasn't a Beast Martial Soul or a weapon-type Martial Soul counted as a Trash Martial Soul if he didn't recognize it.
Even if he reported it, no one would care.
After testing Tang San's Soul Power, Su Yuntao left the wooden hut, full of regret and disappointment. A large group of young children remained behind, staring blankly at one another.
As soon as Su Yuntao left, the children in the crowd surrounded Du Hao. After all, he was the only one among them to awaken a proper Martial Soul.
Among a group of curious children,
he stood out like a crane among chickens, the one and only. He was like the kid who had all kinds of snacks, the mightiest leader in the children's eyes.
"All right, stop making a racket, everyone. Grandpa Village Chief is still waiting for us outside. Let's hurry out!" Du Hao waved his hand with a smile. After all, faced with a bunch of rowdy kids, he didn't have much to say.
He exchanged a glance with Tang San, who stood not far away.
Du Hao led the way out, leaving this so-called village "Spirit Hall" behind.
Now that he'd awakened his Martial Soul, he needed to go home and think carefully about what to do next.
After all, his Martial Soul wasn't much good. It was just a Green Onion, and he had no idea how to develop it. He might as well head back to his shabby little hut.
And see what the system had prepared for him in its newbie gift pack.
Outside Spirit Hall, Old Jack watched Du Hao walk toward him at the head of the group, his face full of anticipation. Smiling broadly, he waved the two Spirit Hall certificates in his hand.
Du Hao's name was on the top one.
The village chief took care of all the orphans in the village. He was happy whenever any of them made something of themselves.
And the tallest boy among them, Little Haozi, had eaten at his house plenty of times since he was little. Now that he'd become a Soul Master, the village chief couldn't have been happier.
"Little Haozi! Come, let Grandpa take a look. You really have Soul Power?" Before Du Hao could even reach him, Old Jack excitedly hurried over and asked.
"Mm, Grandpa Jack. I awakened it. Look!" Du Hao said, holding out his right hand. A half-meter-long Green Onion appeared in his palm.
"Wonderful! Little Haozi, you've made something of yourself." Old Jack gripped Du Hao's shoulders tightly, so excited that he could barely get the words out.
Quite a while later,
Old Jack sent the other children home, then took Du Hao by the hand and went with him to see Tang San home first.
On the way, Old Jack learned that Tang San had awakened Blue Silver Grass and had full Soul Power, making him a genius. This got him excited all over again.
In a place like this, it didn't matter to him whether a Martial Soul was trash or not. He only knew that having Soul Power meant there was hope of becoming a Soul Master, and becoming a Soul Master meant bringing honor to the village.
That way, even after he was gone, he'd have an answer for the people waiting for him down below.
"Little San, would you be willing to go to a school specially set up to teach Soul Masters? Only there..." As Old Jack explained,
Tang San simply nodded, still a little bewildered.
"Grandpa Jack, I have to ask my dad about that when I get home, otherwise..." Tang San said timidly (Buddha Ancestor Tang didn't beat the local Tang San, so I changed this).
"Why doesn't this kid seem anything like the Tang Buddha Ancestor from his previous life? Is he just too cunning? Did I fail to notice?" Du Hao wondered as he watched.
He didn't know much about Tang San. For the past three months, he'd been in the middle of recovering his memories, and hadn't had time to interact much with Tang San.
So he didn't know much about this world, or whether it really would be like the anime he'd watched before.
Before long, their little group of three arrived at the blacksmith shop and stopped outside.
When he saw Tang Hao, the disheveled middle-aged man, Old Jack launched straight into a furious tirade without a word of preamble.
He was furious at him for wasting his potential. After all, a man who couldn't even feed his own child deserved to be spurned by the village.
Old Jack had worked diligently for the village, never letting a single villager fall behind. He could proudly say that 99.99 percent of the villagers had enough to eat!
And yet this one rotten apple had spoiled the whole barrel!
Whether Old Jack offered him support, found him work, or introduced him to a wife, Tang Hao was like a stupid counterweight.
He managed to ruin every single thing!
Old Jack was so heartbroken and furious that he almost dragged over his 800-meter-long giant radish and knocked on Tang Hao's head to see if he was in his right mind.
