Background / History

Yu Xiaogang resided at Notting Academy through the Dean’s connections. When Zhou Tong arrived with innate full Spirit Power, Yu attempted to accept him as a closed-door disciple, but Zhou Tong declined and chose independent cultivation instead 1 2.

He repeatedly urged Zhou Tong to take a ten-year Solitary Bamboo spirit ring, despite Zhou Tong seeking a lightning-attribute ring. His interference escalated into an argument with Zhou Tong and the Dean; Yu threatened Zhou Tong before leaving in anger, declaring that he would prove his theories through another genius 2 3.

After Zhou Tong defeated Tang San in a consensual soul fight, Yu blamed Zhou Tong and attempted to hold him responsible. He later confronted Zhou Tong directly and tried to attack him, only to be bound and electrocuted by Zhou Tong’s leaking lightning spirit power 7. Zhou Tong castrated him but spared his life due to Yu’s connections with Bibi Dong and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect 8.

Seeking retaliation, Yu wrote Bibi Dong a letter portraying Zhou Tong as disrespectful, dangerous, and intent on ingratiating himself with Spirit Hall. Bibi Dong subsequently rejected Zhou Tong’s prospective employment 9. Yu also became Tang San’s mentor, revealing Tang San’s twin martial souls and encouraging him to develop the Clear Sky Hammer into a future Titled Douluo’s weapon 10.

Years later, Yu and Tang San attempted to claim a Poisonous Evil Earth Dragon King hunted for Dugu Yan’s spirit ring. Dugu Bo suppressed Yu with his spirit power, forcing Yu to beg for mercy; Yu’s spirit power was stated to remain at level 29 31. Dugu Bo later dismissed Yu’s boasts about his theories, Bibi Dong connection, and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect background 32.

Zhou Tong publicly denounced Yu as a fraud and accused him of stealing the Ten Core Theories of Martial Souls. Yu was again electrocuted with Heaven Lightning after attacking Zhou Tong in rage 33. Dugu Bo and Zhou Tong ultimately abducted him from Shrek Academy and extracted his Golden Sacred Dragon bloodline to evolve Dugu Bo’s martial soul 47 48 49 50.

Yu Xiaogang presents himself as an eminent theorist and expert, habitually invoking titles, family status, Spirit Hall connections, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect to demand deference 8 31 32.

His confidence collapses when faced with stronger opponents. When he realized that Dugu Bo was a Titled Douluo, he apologized and begged for mercy; he later remained silent and timid after Dugu Bo rejected his threats 31 33. During Zhou Tong’s assault on the Shrek group, he avoided punishment by cowering and betraying his companions 64.

He is vindictive toward Zhou Tong, using his relationship with Bibi Dong to obstruct Zhou Tong’s entry into Spirit Hall 9. At the same time, he is deeply invested in Tang San’s potential and reassures him after his defeats 10.
