Fangji International was not far from here.
Look, that tallest building over there is Fangji International, one of the most luxurious residential complexes in Huang City.
The price per square meter was terrifyingly high.
Based on his former salary, he probably couldn't have afforded even a single toilet there in his entire lifetime.
He looked up at it, feeling quite envious, but without a shred of jealousy; if others could afford to live there, it was because they had earned it through their own abilities.
Besides, he had a house of his own.
He adjusted his mindset.
"It takes thirty minutes to get from here to Fangji International."
This journey would definitely be full of danger; there were too many zombies, and he feared he wouldn't be able to stop their atrocities.
He walked out of the agency.
"Boss, let me borrow your electric scooter for a bit, I'll bring it back later." Lin Fan was somewhat familiar with the handsome boss, so borrowing the scooter certainly wouldn't be a problem.
He was an educated man; one must always ask before borrowing someone else's things. If they didn't want to lend it, one could not force them.
However, the boss was a good person and didn't refuse, which meant he was willing to lend it to him.
He hopped onto the Aima electric scooter and sped forward.
The road was piled with vehicles, many of them overturned. As he passed a sedan, the zombie inside was woodenly slapping the car door; zombies that didn't know how to open doors couldn't get out.
The wind blowing against his face felt truly nice.
In the shops on both sides of the road, many zombies were shambling about. When there were no targets, they appeared extremely dull, but once they spotted one, they became incredibly agile.
Beep beep!
Lin Fan honked the horn and pushed the scooter to its top speed.
Roar!
Zombies hidden inside the shops on both sides of the street heard the piercing sound, rushed out, and followed grimly behind Lin Fan.
"Hey, you zombies better keep up! If you don't exercise every day, your bodies won't be able to take it," Lin Fan shouted, looking back while riding the scooter.
A zombie lunged from the front, its body leaning forward, mouth agape, letting out a hiss as it pounced toward Lin Fan at high speed.
It was a lone zombie in front and a horde behind.
He raised his sword with one hand and slashed down. With a squelch, a hideous head flew into the air, tracing a beautiful arc before dropping to the ground.
There were high-rises on both sides of the street, and naturally, there were survivors.
The survivors of today, hearing the commotion on the road, were all observing cautiously. Looking at the situation outside, they had already lost all hope for the current state of the world.
Living was a form of torture.
But when they saw that scene, they were all stunned.
"Holy crap, who is this guy? He's actually wandering around the streets on an electric scooter."
"Call for help! Let him know we're here!"
"Don't be crazy. Where do you think he can escape to on an electric scooter?"
Some wanted to call for help, but others knew that the guy definitely wouldn't be able to escape. His final fate would be exceptionally miserable; he would surely be torn apart and devoured by the zombies.
A long time passed.
Lin Fan looked back and realized that, at some point, the zombies following him had disappeared.
The surroundings fell into silence once again.
"This is Fangji International. It really is a very, very luxurious complex." He stopped at the entrance, and at a glance, the environment inside was truly incomparable to the place where he lived.
He parked the electric scooter to the side, took a look around, and then gazed at the grand, imposing entrance before slowly walking inside.
He stopped when he passed the security booth. In such luxury complexes, one usually had to register before entering.
Even though the security guard wasn't there, he still had to register. Not causing trouble for others was the greatest help one could provide.
He picked up a pen and wrote in the logbook.
Name: Lin Fan.
Gender: Male.
ID Number: 32232008060938
Time of visit...
He looked up at the wall clock inside the security booth to record the time.
Owner: Chen Gang, Building 3.
After registering, he put the logbook back and entered the complex to search for the building.
"Building 3, Building 3."
He looked up, searching for Building 3.
"This is Building 8, so Building 3 must be further inside." Entering the residential complex felt like stepping into the Grand View Garden; there were many flowers and plants, and the scenery was beautiful.
Not far away, there were fountains and flower beds, though they were marred by several mangled, bloody corpses that emitted a foul stench, ruining the view.
He didn't alert anyone; a poor kid entering a luxurious place like this was bound to feel a bit nervous.
"Found it."
Looking up, the sign for Building 3 appeared.
"Mr. Chen said he was on the rooftop, which means the top of the building. It's so high. I wonder if the elevators are still running. If they've stopped, I'll have no choice but to climb."
Lin Fan gazed upward. It was at least thirty stories high—truly, incredibly tall. But since he had gone to the trouble of finding such an affordable place for the man, he would have to climb it no matter how high it was.
Creak!
A zombie wobbled out slowly from a corner.
Although it was covered in blood, one could tell at a glance that it had been a beautiful woman. A necklace that looked quite expensive hung around her neck, dangling deep into her cleavage.
She was wearing high heels; she must have twisted her ankle while trying to escape, which was why her right foot moved so strangely as she walked.
The female zombie tilted her head, black blood trickling from her mouth, her dark hair hanging down to obscure half of her face.
Upon seeing Lin Fan, the female zombie let out a low growl and sprinted toward him.
Her chest bounced up and down, the thin fabric unable to conceal the glimpses of skin that flashed into view.
Swish!
Lin Fan calmly raised his sword and decapitated the female zombie with a single strike.
Roll, roll!
The blood-soaked head tumbled across the ground before coming to a stop in the distance, its grey, terrifying eyes fixed on Lin Fan from the side.
[Zombie killed]
[Points +1]
Lin Fan shook his head. He didn't want to hurt anyone. Even though some people had turned into zombies and were no longer human, everyone had a right to exist.
But regardless, they shouldn't attack others.
What he was doing now was merely self-defense.
Without lingering, he headed toward Building 3.
There was an electronic door at the entrance, locked tight, but there were keys on the ground. Someone must have tried to run inside but didn't make it in time, having been dragged away by a zombie—after all, there were pools of black blood on the floor.
He opened the door and went inside.
The elevator wasn't working. He stepped in and swiped a card, but with a ding, the display showed only the third floor; it seemed the elevator was restricted to its own floor.
What a pity. He would have to take the stairs.
The stairwell was very quiet. Each floor had a window, and the sunlight streaming in illuminated the otherwise dim corridor.
But when night fell, this place would become terrifyingly pitch-black.
It was safe; he didn't encounter any zombies and finally reached the entrance to the rooftop.
The entrance was blocked by an iron door.
"Mr. Chen, are you there?"
Lin Fan knocked on the door very softly, keeping his voice low to avoid startling the man inside.
But what he didn't know was...
Behind this very door, an inhumane act was taking place.
