Background / History
Before the Apocalypse
Huang City was a major, prosperous city whose GDP had ranked among the country’s top five. It was surrounded by numerous cities, counties, and economically developed towns. 189
The city contained both high-value commercial districts and historic public institutions. Huang City People’s Library, built in Western architectural style, had served as an invaders’ command post during the War of Resistance before becoming a library after liberation; it had once been considered for demolition during urban planning. 17 Fangji International was among the city’s most expensive luxury residential complexes. 21
Zombie Outbreak and Cleanup
After the apocalypse, Huang City became overrun by zombies, including increasing numbers of Evolutionary Zombies after the thunderstorm. Lin Fan began clearing outward from Sunshine Residential Complex, turning its surrounding streets into an expanding safe zone. 98 123 127
The city also contained several survivor shelters and hostile groups. Armed survivors, gangs, and shelters led by authoritarian figures posed threats alongside the zombies. 84 99 121
Lin Fan ultimately cleared Huang City’s remaining zombies, including those at Huang City Prison. Patrol teams later reported no zombie activity, although scattered stragglers and zombies entering from outside remained a concern. 179 180 183
Reconstruction and Victory
Following the cleanup, Huang City became the proposed center of a “City of Hope,” intended to shelter survivors and serve as a base for clearing surrounding regions. Monitoring by the three major bases identified Huang City as the only city then in relatively good condition. 117 138
Sunshine Shelter expanded as survivors, experts, equipment, and the populations of other shelters relocated into the city. Its residents restored services, cultivated food, maintained livestock, and gradually returned city life to a stable routine. 175 183 220 320
Lin Fan later announced that the apocalypse had ended in Huang City. The residents established April 3 as Victory Day, while Officer Huang guarded the border against zombies from outside the country. 359
