Background / History

Sunshine Shelter began as the Sunshine Residential Complex, where Lin Fan gathered survivors and sought to preserve an ordinary, orderly way of life during the apocalypse. Early residents exercised together, prepared land for vegetables, and worked toward self-sufficiency rather than merely hiding from the outside world 30.

Lin Fan cleared corpses from the surrounding streets and promoted the complex as a clean, safe home for suitable survivors. Its residents gradually took on specialized work: farming, teaching children, studying, maintaining infrastructure, and fortifying the grounds 52 91.

The community formalized its development through plenary meetings. Early priorities included food reserves, medicine, a fish pond, reinforced gates and walls, barbed-wire defenses, and iron window guards 84 99 108. As its population expanded, the shelter extended its perimeter and cleared nearby shops for additional living and working space 144 149.

By the time it was known as Sunshine Shelter, it had become a large survivor settlement in Huang City, receiving entire groups from other shelters and bases.
