Gu Yue hung high overhead. Across the vast land stood an ancient fortress, and before it raged a war.
Upon the fortress stood platform after platform, each mounting a massive cannon. Thunder roared and dragon cries rang out.
What they fired were hundred-zhang greatswords, bursting with piercing keens as they shook heaven and earth and plunged straight into the battlefield.
In the sky, colossal warships moved slowly forward. They resembled ancient vessels in appearance, complete with sails, and a red, antique lantern hung from each prow. Yet at this moment, they spewed lightning serpents, endless cannon fire pouring down amid shrill, mournful wails.
Sword immortals circled the warships, treading upon empty air with swords in hand.
Amid the slanting cannon fire, they swept ceaselessly across the battlefield. Wherever sword light flashed, swathes of heads soared high into the air.
On the ground, war chariots leaped forward, drawn by ancient divine oxen that shone with Five-Colored Divine Light. Armored burly men drove them, ancient halberds in hand. As lightning coiled around the divine oxen and golden light blazed from the chariots, the halberd-wielding men swung their great halberds again and again, slashing out crescent after crescent of moonlight toward the enemy.
Opposing them were bizarre corpses—some as short as men, others as towering as mountains.
They hissed and roared, wave after wave pressing forward like mountains and seas as they launched charge after charge toward the ancient fortress.
This was a war beyond words.
Corpses had already blanketed the earth, and blood had flowed into rivers.
More than hundreds of millions of immortals and corpses had fallen. Before they could be buried, before they could even be dealt with, they were trampled into mud and crushed into pulp.
The air was steeped in a blood stench so thick it was suffocating.
