Background / History
Tang San is the son of Tang Hao, the former Clear Sky Douluo. He possesses Blue Silver Grass as one Martial Soul and the Clear Sky Hammer as another; the hammer's presence is concealed on the back of his hand. 25 42 46
He previously lived in the Tang Sect, where he felt suppressed by inner-sect disciples despite believing that he had surpassed them after stealing their techniques. Arriving in his new life, he initially despaired when Blue Silver Grass was regarded as worthless, then regained hope upon discovering his Innate Full Soul Power. 149
At Notting Academy, Tang San becomes Yu Xiaogang's student and is fiercely protective of his teacher's dignity. Wang Sheng's criticism of Yu Xiaogang provokes him to leave a cafeteria gathering. 7 However, after overhearing Yu Xiaogang blame Luo Sanpao for his own failures and speak of cultivating a genius to earn others' worship, Tang San begins to distrust him. He privately concludes that Yu Xiaogang sees him as a tool. 25
Tang San accompanies Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest in search of a Spirit Ring. When a Datura Snake attacks, Yu Xiaogang flees; Tang San kills the beast but does not rescue him. He subsequently becomes more determined to obtain a hundred-year ring and questions whether he needs Yu Xiaogang as a teacher. 32
Personality
Tang San is loyal and responsible, continuing to care for Yu Xiaogang after the latter is paralyzed by the Datura Snake encounter. 37 He is also observant and guarded: rather than openly confronting Yu Xiaogang after overhearing his outburst, he conceals his suspicions and prepares to rely on himself. 25
His drive to prove himself is closely tied to humiliation over Blue Silver Grass and repeated defeats by Qin Qi. After losing to Qin Qi, he attributes the result to carelessness and inadequate training. 43 By the time Qin Qi's strength vastly surpasses his own, Tang San harbors resentment and jealousy, feeling that he can no longer even see Qin Qi's back. 149

Notting Academy
Tang San appears among the Notting Academy students alongside Xiao Wu and Wang Sheng. His loyalty to Yu Xiaogang creates tension when Wang Sheng disparages the latter's strength and reputation. 7

Academy Sparring
Tang San faces Qin Qi in the Junior Spirit Master Academy sparring competition. He attempts to gain an edge with Ghost Shadow footwork, but Qin Qi evades with Catkin Step and defeats him in a single Instant Strike punch. 42 43

Shrek Academy Decision
Tang San presents a Heaven Dou Empire academy qualification certificate to Shrek Academy, but its teachers dismiss the document. Jealousy of Qin Qi
Tang San's repeated comparisons with Qin Qi culminate in intense inner resentment. Though he recalls surpassing others through relentless practice and possessing Innate Full Soul Power, he feels permanently overshadowed by Qin Qi. 149
