The ruins of the city were desolate and silent, drifting with the stench of decay and rot.
This was a terrifying city filled with death and eerie stillness. There were no living people here—at least, up until now, Xiao Hen had not discovered a single soul.
"Damn it, is this really the movie world of Resident Evil?"
Xiao Hen gripped a rusted steel bar in his hand, hiding in a corner. He had sharpened the tip of the bar until it was keen. Even now, he still struggled to believe his current predicament.
He was just an ordinary, single city dweller, a good citizen caught in the endless loop of commuting, League of Legends, Honor of Kings, eating, using the restroom, sleeping, and working. How could he have suddenly appeared in this wasteland?
It all started with that Mechanical Mark on the back of his hand. For some unknown reason, it had appeared there, and without a word, it dragged him into this horrific world and dumped a mission on him: survive for one month.
Yes, survive for one month. Xiao Hen would have loved to find a place to hide, complete the mission after thirty days, and let the Mechanical Mark take him back, but the zombies of this world were not so cooperative.
The zombies found him quickly and attacked with a frenzy. He had no choice but to fight back.
The steel bar in his hand was the only weapon he had managed to find.
"Get lost!"
Xiao Hen swung the steel bar, repelling a zombie that had lunged at him.
The terrifying zombies were mangled beyond recognition, driven only by instinct and the hunger to feed. Seeing a living person, they swarmed him. Xiao Hen was that living person, and the zombies would never let him go. One, two, then a whole horde of them surged forward.
"This won't work. If I stay here any longer, I'm going to die..."
The thought of death sent a shiver of fear through Xiao Hen. If he had felt a shred of excitement about being a transmigrator before, that was gone now. Facing the zombies at such close range and feeling the threat of death so clearly, he knew that if he died, the Mechanical Mark wouldn't care. It was only responsible for sending him to this horrific world; if he didn't complete the mission, it wouldn't bring him back to his original world.
Xiao Hen turned and ran, heading into the distance. His movements were still agile; at least he hadn't been paralyzed by fear.
While running, Xiao Hen checked the mission issued by the Mechanical Mark on the back of his hand:
Main Mission: Repair the Shuttle, in progress.
Side Mission: Survive for one month, remaining time: twenty-nine days.
Main mission incomplete, unable to return. Host, please continue your efforts.
Xiao Hen gritted his teeth. What kind of ridiculous mission was this? It was so vague.
"Damn it, survive for one month? What kind of mission is that? In a world like this, surviving for a month is a death sentence."
Xiao Hen ran to a secluded corner and had just caught his breath when he realized more zombies were closing in. Gritting his teeth in fury, he tightened his grip on the steel bar and swung it at the incoming zombies. A skull shattered, and the headless corpse collapsed with a thud.
As an ordinary person, Xiao Hen could honestly say he was the calmest and boldest of the bunch. Even after arriving in such a terrifying world, he had been able to adapt instantly, fight the zombies, and kill them.
Perhaps he was naturally suited for this kind of high-stakes life!
Xiao Hen fought while retreating. His hands were beginning to ache and grow weak from the exertion—a normal reaction for a city youth—but the massive surge of adrenaline granted him the combat prowess to counter the attacking zombies.
"Go to hell!"
Xiao Hen gripped the steel bar with both hands and viciously drove it into a zombie's skull. He then looked at the massive horde of zombies rushing toward him, spat on the ground, and turned to run toward a high-rise building behind him.
"If I had Alice's power, all of you zombies would die by my hands." As he ran, Xiao Hen looked back at the horde with resentment.
Reaching the roof, Xiao Hen slammed the door shut and hurried to the edge. He gauged the distance between the two buildings, took a running start, and leaped into the air, landing on the roof of the next building.
After rolling to a stop, he looked at the growing crowd of zombies on the opposite roof, offered a cold sneer, and left.
This was the ruin of Raccoon City. By the time Xiao Hen realized this, it was already too late—or perhaps not too late at all. He had arrived at the base where Claire was located. Claire and Doc had discovered Xiao Hen surrounded by zombies and saved him. Familiar with the plot, Xiao Hen followed Claire to that cylindrical base, waiting for the story to unfold—which, in reality, meant waiting for Alice's arrival.
Alice arrived half a month later.
One night, half a month later, Alice was captured by base personnel while riding her motorcycle. Because of her familiarity with Claire, some misunderstandings were avoided, and Alice joined the base. However, this brought Dr. Isaac, who was hunting Alice, along with the massive Living Dead Army he had brought with him.
Alice and Claire led everyone in setting up defenses, and Xiao Hen joined the ranks.
Although Xiao Hen knew the subsequent plot, Claire and Alice were both sharp. If Xiao Hen showed even the slightest sign of being suspicious, he might be killed as a spy. Besides, there was already an Umbrella spy in the base, and Xiao Hen wasn't about to expose himself unnecessarily.
"Alice, look at the dust rising in the distance. Is that the Living Dead Army?" Xiao Hen stood at the top of the cylindrical base, peering through binoculars. His heart sank as he saw the dust constantly kicking up from the ground in the distance. He knew the plot had begun; Dr. Isaac had arrived with the Living Dead Army.
"Let me see!"
Alice took the binoculars from Xiao Hen. Upon looking, her expression turned grim, and she immediately issued an order: "Pass the word down, get ready immediately. Isaac is here."
"Understood!" A beautiful blonde woman behind Alice replied solemnly before turning to leave.
Xiao Hen remained silent. The woman who had just left was, of course, one of the leaders of this base, Claire.
He thought about how the reason he had come to this world was the Mechanical Mark on the back of his hand, which only he could see. Surviving for one month was his mission. More than half a month had passed, and with only ten days or so left, he would be able to go back.
"Ten days. With my knowledge of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, surviving should be no problem!"
Xiao Hen let out a long breath, tightened his grip on the submachine gun in his hand, and turned to leave the roof, heading downstairs. Dr. Isaac wouldn't give up easily; his primary goal was to kill Alice and stop her from reaching The Hive. This battle was inevitable.
"The final obstacle. If I can survive this, I can return to the Real World, and I'll be able to claim the benefits promised by this Mechanical Mark."
Xiao Hen stepped onto the ground and looked outward. There, two armored vehicles were slowly approaching, and behind them, a vast, overwhelming army of zombies was in hot pursuit.
