Surviving in a world overrun with zombies required tremendous courage. For some reason, after his initial panic, Xiao Hen quickly adapted to this cruel world. When he killed zombies, he showed no mercy.
Even those in the base who had fought zombies for years looked at Xiao Hen with admiration. They could see his youth, but they could also see his growth—and his terrifying ability to adapt.
By the time the two armored vehicles Isaac had rushed over to commandeer arrived, it was already getting late. In the silent night came the howls of zombies and the rumbling roar of engines.
The ground trembled, and the long-neglected buildings split open with even larger cracks. Two armored vehicles came thundering down the road leading to the base, followed by an endless Zombie Army.
Alice, who had been setting up defenses outside, immediately ran back into the base. Everyone inside knew the enemy had officially arrived. Amid grinding noises, the drawbridge before the base gates was raised, and every defensive measure was put on alert.
Everyone gathered on top of the base, watching with grave expressions as the two armored vehicles and the Zombie Army behind them slowly approached.
"My God, the Living Dead Army..."
Someone muttered in despair.
The sight before them in the night filled the survivors in the base with hopelessness.
"What should we do?"
"Yeah, this is terrifying. There are so many zombies... What are we supposed to do now?"
"If we want to live, then we fight. With Alice here, we have a chance to win!" Xiao Hen did not want to see everyone lose their will to fight. He knew that with Alice here, they could definitely win. In the plot, it was Alice who arranged several traps that killed most of the zombies. Then they used cables to reach the armored vehicles and defeat Isaac and the others.
I just hope the plot hasn't changed because of my arrival... Xiao Hen thought.
Alice said calmly, "We'll wipe every last one of them out!"
On the ground, the boundless Zombie Army followed the two armored vehicles in a mighty tide.
Alice shouted, "Everyone, get into position! Prepare yourselves!"
"Oil Barrel Ignition!"
"Fire!" Alice stared grimly at the two armored vehicles below. Once they reached the designated position, she barked the order.
The burning oil barrel flew toward one of the armored vehicles. The tremendous force of the explosion tore through its defenses, and flaming liquid spilled into the cabin. A scream rang out from inside.
"Damn it! Load the ammunition! Ready all weapons!"
Isaac roared in fury. They had only just arrived, yet they had already lost one armored vehicle. How could he not be enraged?
But in the next moment, Isaac saw the base's raised drawbridge. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he said, "Stop!"
Inside the sole remaining vehicle, an Asian young man was driving. Isaac stood behind him with a vicious grin, issuing orders into a radio. "Release the Bait!"
As Isaac's words fell, a door on the side of the vehicle opened, and a frantic blonde woman stepped out. She was a survivor Isaac had captured. He had released her now to lure the people in the base into rescuing her. As long as they opened the gates, countless zombies would rush into the base. Then he would not need to lift a finger to wipe them out.
Isaac laughed loudly as he watched the blonde woman flee in panic toward the base, with zombies chasing after her.
"Someone's coming. It's a survivor," a young man reported.
Claire frowned, clearly aware that this was Isaac's trap. Alice pursed her lips and spoke into the radio. "Open the gate. Let her in."
"No!" Xiao Hen frowned. "If we open the gate now, even if we save her, the zombies will rush in after her. More people will die."
That was exactly what had happened in the original plot. Because they rescued that woman, only seven or eight people remained alive in the base. It had happened because Alice could not bear to abandon her.
"I said, open the gate. Let her in." Alice glanced at Xiao Hen and spoke in a deep voice.
Alice held enormous prestige. The moment she finished speaking, the people controlling the gate lowered it and let the woman in.
"Provide covering fire!"
The armed people standing on either side of the drawbridge opened fire. Zombies fell one after another beneath their guns, but compared to the countless zombies rushing in from the distance, those killed were merely drops in the ocean.
Xiao Hen fired with an expressionless face. He was not angry at Alice's decision. As the protagonist of the Resident Evil world, Alice possessed an immense spirit of sacrifice and a compassionate heart that wished to save humanity. Her combat ability was also formidable. That was why she had survived through six Resident Evil films and, in this final one, truly completed her redemption.
Xiao Hen was not that kind of self-sacrificing movie protagonist. He was only an ordinary civilian. Having adapted to the ways of surviving in the apocalypse over the past ten-odd days, he had changed from who he once was. He was now more decisive and resolute. The apocalyptic world tempered a person's will in terrifying ways. Those who could survive here were either extremely confident and selfish, or protagonist-like figures such as Alice and Claire, sustained by immense conviction.
My strength is still only that of an ordinary person. I'm no match for Alice, who has been enhanced by the T-Virus. For now, I'll follow the plot. Once we reach The Hive, I need to find a way to get the real T-Virus—or simply obtain the G-Virus—to strengthen myself.
Xiao Hen silently recited this to himself, then continued firing at the zombies below. He shot them in the head one after another. Their headless bodies fell to the ground and were trampled by the zombies behind them.
Xiao Hen knew that Isaac was surely waiting with a sinister grin for the right moment to annihilate the base survivors in one stroke. And indeed, that was exactly the case.
Just as the female survivor was about to reach the gates, a burst of machine-gun fire rang out. Countless bullet holes appeared across her body, and she collapsed to the ground in despair. A pile of zombies pounced on her and tore into her viciously.
Yet even more zombies charged toward the base gates.
"Damn it, close the gate now!" Alice and the others shouted.
Xiao Hen calmly fired, blasting away and killing the zombies climbing onto the drawbridge. But there were too many zombies. Even with several people firing nonstop, they still could not stop the mass of zombies from storming forward.
"Alice, we can't hold them!" Claire shouted. She shot down several zombies rushing toward her, then yelled upward.
"Abandon the gate. Fall back." Alice gave the order, and everyone immediately moved. Xiao Hen retreated with them, knowing what Alice intended to do next.
More and more zombies rushed into the first floor of the base. Xiao Hen kept firing as he slowly retreated upstairs, only to see Claire still on the lower level, killing zombies without pause. "Claire, come here! Come up here!"
"No!"
Hearing Xiao Hen's words, Claire did not immediately head upstairs. Instead, she continued firing. Xiao Hen turned to look and saw a woman surrounded by zombies near a railing ahead. Claire wanted to save her.
Xiao Hen knew that the woman was already trapped by the zombies. In the plot, she had been bitten to death. There were too many zombies around her. She could not be saved.
And Claire only listened to Alice. She ignored Xiao Hen completely.
"Idiot woman." Xiao Hen snorted coldly. He did not try to persuade Claire any further. Instead, he continued firing precise shots at the zombies rushing toward him, shattering their heads one by one and sending them crashing to the ground. Xiao Hen fought as he retreated, reaching the rooftop shortly afterward.
Alice kept her eyes fixed on what lay below. Then she spoke into the radio. "Claire, bring the others up now. Immediately!"
Claire looked grief-stricken. Clearly, the person she had wanted to save was already dead. Hearing Alice's order and knowing the situation was urgent, she immediately withdrew to the rooftop.
"Ignite!"
