As an Open World game, Grand Theft Auto was a compilation of all kinds of gameplay.
Grand Theft Auto had no uniquely innovative feature in any single area. Racing, gunfight design, simulation and progression, stealth—other games had all of those.
The truly crucial element was that Grand Theft Auto integrated all those gameplay styles into a living, breathing world.
Every activity revolved around vibrant cities like Los Santos and Vice City.
That was what made the game so captivating.
The game's multiplayer mode was the same, using other players to add competition and social elements, creating a more immersive progression experience.
In Los Santos, Song Ren and Zhang Yi began trying out Grand Theft Auto's online multiplayer mode.
Although there was story DLC content, the single-player story could be played anytime. They wanted to check out multiplayer as soon as possible.
After all, many games were like that. The most exciting period was right when the servers first opened, when everyone rushed to progress together.
But if they waited too long and fell behind, it basically lost that feeling.
Just like World of Warcraft. When it first came out, aside from daily life and work, groups of people spent every day leveling and running dungeons.
At the very least, they had to keep up with the mainstream players' progress. But once they fell behind even a little, they only logged in casually when a new expansion released.
Even now, they had never cleared the Arthas raid, much less gotten Invincible to drop. They could not even beat the raid itself.
They might not keep playing forever, but if they were interested, they absolutely had to start the moment the servers opened.
