Background / History

The Hidden Sand targeted Konoha’s transport route, dispatching a force led by the Kazekage’s men to destroy a medicine convoy. Konoha anticipated the raid, turning it into a trap; the invading force was surrounded and annihilated despite initially outnumbering the guards three-to-one. The attack included jonin directly tied to the Kazekage. 21 22 24

Following this loss, the Kazekage committed 5,000 reinforcements to the front and sent disciples to support the campaign. 24 Hidden Sand commanders Chiyo and Ebizo subsequently relied on poison warfare, but Tsunade developed an antidote within a day, negating Chiyo’s advantage. 26

Konoha’s raid on a Hidden Sand supply depot was initially successful, but Chiyo, Ebizo, Dosa, and Kalo trapped Tsunade’s team with puppets, Wind Style, and Dosa’s Magnet Style gold dust. Dosa, identified as the Third Kazekage’s disciple, was later killed during the aftermath of the operation. 29 30 33

Decisive Battle

Chiyo and Ebizo assembled 8,000 Hidden Sand ninja against Konoha’s main force. Their sandstorm strategy devastated the Leaf’s formations, with only about thirty percent of Konoha’s troops reaching shelter compared with over seventy percent of Hidden Sand’s troops. 40 41

The advantage collapsed when Shikaku’s reconnaissance force preemptively destroyed a 1,000-man Hidden Sand flanking force and arrived as Konoha reinforcements. Konoha then counterattacked, forcing Hidden Sand into a rout. 42 43

Ruins Ambush

After the decisive battle, Chiyo received intelligence concerning Hyuga-related ruins roughly 60 kilometers away and ordered an attack in which no Konoha survivors were to be left. Hidden Sand ninja ambushed Hyuga Mizuki’s team, severely injuring Mizuki before Hyuga Nichigetsu intervened. 46 47
