Background / History

Konoha was founded after the Uchiha Clan and Senju Clan ended the Warring States period. Its name reflects both founders: the “Leaf” derives from the Uchiha fan-shaped crest, while “Wood” refers to Senju Hashirama’s Wood Release. The village was intended to spare clans and children from the warfare that had defined the prior era. 14

Senju Tobirama later established major institutions including the Ninja Academy, Anbu, and Konoha Police Force. The Police Force retained archival documents personally signed by Tobirama, affirming its authority and preserving its institutional legitimacy. 12 159

By Konoha’s 54th year, the village was enjoying a fragile peace following a treaty with Kumogakure, though the aftermath of the Nine-Tails Rebellion and the death of a Hyuga branch-family head left several clans uneasy. At the same time, the Uchiha were subjected to open and covert hostility from Konoha’s other factions. 1 2

Government and Institutions

Political Crisis and Reforms

The Uchiha Clan’s growing strength and its conflict with Root brought Konoha close to civil war. Fear of an Uchiha uprising spread among civilians and clan leaders when the Uchiha compound was sealed off and Root and Anbu forces converged around it. 11

Uchiha Jin used the Police Force’s authority, political pressure, and repeated public confrontations to challenge Sarutobi Hiruzen’s faction. He demanded investigations into Root, proposed public memory searches to expose hidden enemies, and rejected Hiruzen’s authority as acting Hokage before a formal election. 37 63

After securing the acting position, Jin dismissed the former Hokage Assistants, detained Sarutobi Hiruzen, and appointed temporary replacements from the Nara, Akimichi, and Hyuga clans. 100 104 He was subsequently recognized as Konoha’s Fifth Hokage when the major clan heads pledged obedience to him. 178 179

His early reforms included:

• Expelling the Utatane Clan from Konoha for supporting the sacrifice of comrades. 100
• Ordering investigations and punishment for Sarutobi Hiruzen’s faction. 179
• Exiling or relocating the Sarutobi, Utatane, and Mito factions. 179 180
• Abolishing the Hyuga Clan’s Caged Bird Seal, ending the branch family’s inherited bondage. 179 180
• Expanding Uchiha instruction to civilian ninja and implementing Police Force rankings based on strength. 131

Uchiha–Konoha Conflict

Konoha becomes the center of escalating conflict between the Uchiha Clan, Root, and Sarutobi Hiruzen’s administration. The village’s clans attempt to avoid civil war, fearing that internal fighting would invite intervention by rival villages. 49 91

Fifth Hokage Transition

Uchiha Jin exploits the collapse of Sarutobi Hiruzen’s authority to become Acting Hokage and later Fifth Hokage. The transition overturns Konoha’s prior political order, elevates the Uchiha, and subjects former leaders to detention, exile, or loss of office. 94 104 178 191

War with Kumogakure

Konoha launches a war against Kumogakure in retaliation for the treatment of a fallen Konoha ninja and the earlier Hyuga incident. The village’s clan forces fight together at Frost Thunder Gorge, while Jin criticizes their reliance on inherited prestige rather than continuous improvement. 98 188 196 201

Ninja World Reorganization

Following its conflict with Kumogakure, Konoha becomes the base for Jin’s attempt to reshape the Ninja World. He proposes reducing daimyo power, redistributing mission shares among the great villages, and holding annual joint jōnin and chūnin examinations in Konoha. 214 216

Time-Space Konoha Crisis

Later events involve Uchiha Jin and the Death God Sub-Squad entering another time-space. This Konoha is attacked by Uchiha forces, while resurrected figures including Senju Hashirama, Senju Tobirama, and Namikaze Minato struggle to understand why a man claiming the title of Fifth Hokage has turned against the village. 218 243 245
