Corn Grass field.
The grain-mutated variety of Corn Grass had already produced plump kernels where its large clusters of flower spikes had been. The kernels looked like rather rounded triangles, packed together in strings along a single ear.
They bore little resemblance to the corn kernels in his memory, though they were about the same size.
This large cluster of ears weighed at least a quarter kilogram. Once mature, its yield would surely far exceed that of wheat and millet. The only question was how it tasted—would it be like corn on the cob, or like other grains... And could it be eaten as rice, or ground into flour?
Not far from the grain-mutated Corn Grass, Liszt spotted oil-mutated Corn Grass.
Its thick, oversized stalks and leaves were mixed among ordinary Corn Grass and were not especially conspicuous, but its ears stood out. The ears of ordinary Corn Grass were dry and shriveled, while its own were exceptionally plump. Their tender green husks seemed almost transparent, and one could clearly sense the great quantity of oil contained within.
He gave one a squeeze, and sure enough, his hand came away slick with oil.
This was still an unripe ear. Once it matured, who knew what the oil inside its fruit would be like.
"They're both very valuable mutations." He gave the grain and oil-mutated Corn Grass a favorable assessment, slowly easing his longing for corn on the cob.
He then informed Isaiah, "This kind of Corn Grass with kernels at the top shall be called Grain Corn. This kind that yields oil when squeezed shall be called Oil Corn. Protect them well. Once they mature, we'll study their practical value and prepare for large-scale planting."
"Yes, my lord."
After identifying the Grain Corn and Oil Corn, Liszt cast Magic Eye
