Background / History
Flower Town originated from a wild flower field discovered on Coral Island. Two vigorous new tulip varieties prompted William Tulip to establish Flower Farm and settle workers there. As the farm's population grew, Flower Town was founded approximately seventeen years before Liszt's arrival. Poor transport later caused the Tulip Family to relocate the valuable tulips to Coral City, leaving the farm and town in decline. 14 100
Liszt Tulip was enfeoffed as Baron of Flower Town on March 9 and arrived the following day with only four Elf Bugs. The settlement was isolated, poorly administered, and heavily taxed by Coral Island's previous officials. 1 12 133
Under Liszt, the town underwent repeated censuses, road-building, sanitation, agricultural, logging, and construction campaigns. Its economy expanded from subsistence farming into fisheries, trade, magical-herb cultivation, soapmaking, brewing, ironwood processing, and other workshops. 77 148 169 293 917
After Liszt gained Black Horse Island, Flower Town's magical plants, Elf Bug Grass, workshops, and craftsmen were scheduled for gradual transfer to Port Town. It nevertheless remained important to Liszt as the site where his enterprise began and where the Invisible Dragon had once appeared. 417 419 394
Territory and Settlements
Flower Town's precise borders were originally undefined; its territory was broadly described as land northeast of Thorn Ridge. Thorn Ridge itself was unclaimed wilderness and became both a barrier to trade and a major area for reclamation. 5 59
| Surveyed feature | Extent / details |
|---|---|
| Flower Town proper | Roughly 15,000 mu, including farmland, beaches, buildings, streams, ponds, and roads 148 |
| Surveyed arable land | Approximately 5,165 mu 148 |
| Coastal beach | Approximately 8,100 mu 148 |
| Built area | Approximately 775 mu 148 |
| Thorn Ridge | Roughly 13,000 mu of wilderness and later-development land 148 |
| Liszt's calculated territory total | Approximately 33,000 mu after including Thorn Ridge and low-tide beach 148 |
Early settlements included the town itself, Peanut, Mushroom, Tomato, Barley, Wheat, and Oyster Hamlets, Flower Farm, Dairy Farm, and the castle area. 12 20 148
Flower Farm
Flower Farm predates Flower Town and was founded around the cultivation of newly discovered tulips. At its height, tulips covered approximately 200 mu; later, much of its land was converted to wheat and other crops. 14 100
Its most valuable later crop was the Black Tulip, a magical herb cultivated as a potion resource. The farm also retained red Sundance Tulips and yellow William I Tulips, though these ordinary varieties declined after most serfs were transferred to Black Horse Island. 148 579
Population
| Period | Population record | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial census | 584 households; 1,973 residents | 51 households and 153 people were free citizens; the remainder were serfs. 13 |
| Including castle residents | 1,990 people | Included Liszt, ten servants, four squire knights, Gortai, and Marcus. 13 |
| After major resettlement | More than 3,500 people | Liszt stated that roughly half had been purchased as serfs. 220 |
| Later spring plowing period | More than 3,000 residents remaining in Flower Town | This excluded 1,500 people working on Black Horse Island. 322 |
Most early residents worked in agriculture, cultivating barley, wheat, oats, tomatoes, mushrooms, peanuts, and tulips, or raising livestock. Only seven percent of the population worked in handicrafts during the first census. 13
Governance
Flower Town's administration was initially sparse and ineffective, consisting of four clerks and six patrolmen who lacked literacy and even basic population records. Liszt personally directed the first census after Gortai's staff failed to count the hamlets accurately. 12
Gortai Mast was later appointed advisor, the office leading territorial officials under the Sapphire Grand Duchy's system. 134
| Office | Officeholder | Responsibilities |
|---|---|---|
| Advisor and Foreign Affairs Officer | Gortai Mast | Overall affairs and foreign relations 162 |
| Government and Legal Affairs Officer | Isaiah Moss | Administration and legal affairs 162 |
| Government Affairs Assistant | Oden Insole | Government support duties 162 |
| Finance Officer | Blair Nail | Financial affairs 162 |
| Finance Officer Assistant | Gray Sickle | Financial support duties 162 |
| Defense Officer | Karl Hammer | Patrol squad affairs 162 |
| Bug Affairs Officer | Rom Barrel | Bug Protection Team affairs 162 |
| Maritime Affairs Officer | Kosto Hoofprint | Navigation affairs 162 |
The Apple Table Meeting also created the internally designated Flower Town Knight Academy, with instructors receiving two Copper Coins per day. 162
Economy and Resources
Agriculture and Magical Resources
Flower Town's early economy depended on low-yield farming and taxation of crops such as peanuts, milk, wheat, barley, oats, tomatoes, and tulips. Its barren soil, shortage of labor, and isolation limited production. 12 20 35
Liszt used Elf Bugs and Sprites to improve crops, develop magical herbs, and support specialized industries. By the time of the resource census, the town possessed dedicated fields for peanuts, wheat, tomatoes, millet, alfalfa, Dragon Sunflowers, tulips, mushrooms, thorns, and Fragrant Coconut Trees. 148
| Resource | Recorded details |
|---|---|
| Peanuts | 100 mu of fields and a Peanut Elf Bug 148 |
| Mushrooms | 80 mu of mushroom sheds and 30 mu of mixed mushroom/Flame Mushroom greenhouses 148 |
| Wheat | 500 mu of fields and a Wheat Elf Bug 148 |
| Flower Farm | 200 mu of tulip fields, including Sundance, William I, and Black Tulips 148 |
| Dairy Farm | Alfalfa pasture, dairy cows, a Thorn Forest, and coastal land 148 |
| Castle grounds | Alfalfa pasture, Dragon Sunflower fields, horses, and reclaimable wasteland 148 |
Processing Industries
| Industry / product | Significance |
|---|---|
| Flower Soap | Developed from a mixed soap formula and marketed as a Flower Town specialty; later became a pillar industry with a net profit of five Gold Coins per day. 169 293 |
| Flower Brew | Distilled baijiu produced by the brewery workshop, graded by purity and protected as a trade secret. 275 |
| Peanut processing | Produced peanut butter and peanut snacks as profitable workshop goods. 170 |
| Ironwood products | Fast-Growing Iron Thorns supplied a woodworking industry producing furniture, clothes hangers, rocking chairs, and drawer cabinets. 294 306 |
| Seafood trade | One of the earliest major commercial ventures following the opening of the Thorn Ridge road and caravan routes. 77 191 |
| Potion cultivation | Black Tulips, Magic Thorns, Flame Mushrooms, and Dragon Sunflowers provided magical-herb resources. 353 |
Flower Town's industries later faced relocation to Black Horse Island. The planned transfers included the brewery, soap workshop, magic workshop, crystal workshop, bone craftsman's shop, medicinal plants, and Elf Bug Grass. 419
Infrastructure and Civic Development
- Thorn Ridge road — Timber cutting and road widening reconnected Flower Town to Coral Island's trade network and enabled merchant caravans to enter the territory. 68 77
- Caravans — The Flower Caravan and Thorn Caravan were established for trade and transport. 106
- Port facilities — Flower Town developed docks and operated the Flower, its first seagoing vessel; it later acquired a second vessel, Thorn. 133 335
- Urban planning — Liszt ordered roads, districts, planned residential areas, workshop districts, commercial districts, drainage, curbs, green belts, and latrines. 78 154
- Sanitation — Residents were prohibited from relieving themselves in public; toilets were constructed for town use. 154
- Bathhouses — Two public bathhouses became a recognizable feature of Flower Town and attracted visitors from North Valley City. 219 264
- Housing and labor — Serfs were equipped with tools, offered paid work, and given access to food, clothing, housing, and agricultural support. 148 218 322
Military Role
Flower Town formed its own knight squad as Liszt's military strength expanded. By the squad's formal formation, it consisted of twelve Earth Knights. 339
The town's armed resources included refined steel knight equipment, thorn-ironwood arrows, thorn poison, and Liszt's intermediate Magic Beast, Dousen. 356
Flower Town's reputation rose sharply after Liszt's slaying of the Six-Headed King Sea Serpent, though the news initially remained mostly within the town. 328
Legacy
Flower Town was the foundation of Liszt's early power, wealth, and magical resources. He regarded it as the place where his enterprise began and retained it out of attachment even when seeking larger fiefs. 394
Its repeated mass campaigns in logging, cleaning, road-building, and spring plowing trained officials and commoners in large-scale organization; this experience later supported the development of Black Horse Island and the Flame Archipelago. 917
By the later era, young knights traveled to Flower Town to visit the place associated with Liszt's rise, even after he himself no longer felt attached to it. 1089
