Background

A Ke was a frightened forty-one-year-old sea demon when Liszt found her hiding in her shell. She had fled from Dulu Michita, a six-headed great sea serpent that preyed on sea demons, and was too afraid to return to the sea. Liszt shortened her long name to “A Ke,” gained her trust, and promised her protection 269 270.

Her shell had protected her since birth, but it also restricted her: before gaining feet, she could not leave it because the seawater below her ankles was part of her body. Liszt brought her to Flower Town, arranged a dedicated wooden residence connected to his castle, and kept her existence secret for her safety 271.

A Ke quickly embraced magical study. Within months, she learned multiple water spells and chose to remain near Flower Town rather than return permanently to the sea, wanting both safety and continued instruction from Liszt 329.
