Amber That Encases an Era

The magic-infused amber had reached Liszt's hands before he had even needed to concern himself with it.

"My lord, the serfs responsible for expanding the Flower Port dock plaza dug up this strange stone from the sand and gravel while leveling the rocky beach," Isaiah personally delivered a transparent yellow stone to the castle. "It's as clear as a gemstone, and there's actually an Elf Bug inside!"

An Elf Bug?

Liszt swiftly took the palm-sized flat stone. It was a rich yellow and remarkably translucent.

Most wondrous of all, it encased a plump Elf Bug. The Elf Bug was curled into the shape of a doughnut and looked lifelike. There were also traces of impurities such as leaves around it. Its overall appearance made it clear that this was amber—the amber rewarded by the Smoke mission.

"Is this magic-infused amber?" Liszt immediately cast Magic Eye to inspect it.

At once, he discovered a faint glow of magic power, chaotic in color, and it was actually emanating from the Elf Bug. The Elf Bug encased in the amber had yellow and black stripes across its body—he did not know whether that had been its original appearance or discoloration from within the amber.

This left him deeply astonished. "An Elf Bug turned into amber can still possess magic power?"

As far as he knew, amber formed when pine resin dripped down, was buried underground for tens of millions of years, and petrified under pressure and heat into a gemstone-like stone. When much of that pine resin dripped, it happened to envelop tiny insects on tree trunks, fossilizing them together into something incomparably magnificent.

However, amber on Earth generally formed forty to sixty million years ago. After all, turning pine resin into a fossil required an immense span of time.
