Dumbledore was holding a huge roasted wolf leg, his mouth gleaming with grease as he argued with Grindelwald over which piece of meat tasted better. Grindelwald, meanwhile, held up a skewer of roasted snake meat with a smug look on her face.

As if she were showing off her trophy. Two legendary wizards, in a primeval forest ten thousand years ago, eating like two children on a picnic, their mouths slick with grease.

Perhaps this was a kind of reconciliation, too.

"Not bad, not bad." Ian put away the device and nodded in satisfaction. Once they returned to the correct timeline, he would have to treasure these photos properly.

After eating and drinking their fill, the three lay beside the bonfire, watching the sky grow darker and darker.

In the distance, the silent volcano began to emit a low rumble. The ground trembled faintly, as though something enormous were awakening. Grindelwald suddenly sat up and looked toward the forest that was about to be destroyed, a keen gleam flashing in her mismatched eyes. "Since there's still time, why not... get some practice?"

Dumbledore looked at her. "Practice?"

Grindelwald nodded. "I've only just advanced to Legendary. I haven't fully adapted to my strength yet. Perfect timing—there's a whole pile of 'targets' here. Those ancient creatures are the best sparring partners."

She rose to her feet and stretched.

"Besides, they'll all be dead in three hours anyway. I might as well put them to good use."

Dumbledore frowned. "Gellert, that isn't right. Those creatures may be destined to die, but dying in a volcanic eruption and dying by your wand are two different things. We cannot actively take their lives."

Grindelwald turned around to look at him, a trace of disdain flashing through her mismatched eyes.
